It Works

Strengths:

No problems thus far after three months of usage. Depending on your computer, install can be a breeze (like mine) or requires a bit of jury rigging. Tool-less as mentioned where rubber 'screws" are used.

Weaknesses:

For some reason, the HDD LED remains on when at rest. And when there is actual HDD activity the LED would blink Red. Perhaps this is related to my PC but I haven't found a solution. The included face plate was a bit strange. It basically had all the usual labeling for an ODD. I'm not sure why Vantec went this route; maybe wanted to fool someone that it's an ODD. The face plate even had the usual disc eject button and manual eject pin hole. If someone else were to use your computer without knowing that you've swapped out the ODD, they might be inclined to use a the manual eject pin hole after the disc eject button fails to work. Vantec should have went with a blank plate instead.

Additional Comments:

Picked up a tiny PC that had an optical drive. Since it's been ages that I've used an ODD, I decided to switch it out for additional storage and this fit the bill. Currently using a 5400 RPM HDD from an old laptop (switched for an SSD) since it was just collecting dust. Even with the oddity of the face plate, I'm still giving full marks as the product just works.
