Strengths:
works with 2HD 1.44MB floppy disks. have not tried other sizes. read and write work. to delete files, I had to right click, delete, then empty my trash folder.
google says that floppy disks come pre-formatted with MS-DOS FAT12.
Linux (Ubuntu) and MacOS Monterey did not need any drivers to use this. Have not tried windows.
Weaknesses:
none so far. would be nice if memory express sold floppies too...
Additional Comments:
used to load CNC programs onto floppy drives since serial port loading takes forever for modern programs
OS used: macOS Monterey
Process:
1) insert floppy into reader (make sure its clean!)
2) plug usb into computer (make sure Parallel doesn't grab the usb)
3) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORMAT. I have had no success with any kind of formatting. this seems to be an OS problem, even Linux didn't have the needed FAT12 formatting.
4) To load a CNC program (O0123), I moved the file over, then right click, properties, and then REMOVE the file extension inside properties. it will ask are you sure, YES (this was the biggest hurdle, the old CNC controllers don't want a file extension)
5) wait until all noises and vibrations have stopped. The floppy drive should be silent, light off.
6) DO NOT EJECT THE FLOPPY DRIVE. the floppy was unusable after I tried that.
7) UNPLUG the usb floppy drive, then push the button to eject.
The floppy disks were perfectly fine using above process. I'm reasonably sure the problems with formatting and ejecting are an OS incompatibility. just don't do those two things. I have had no success "fixing" a floppy disk I broke by attempting to format.

Strengths:
Compact
When it works, it works well.
Weaknesses:
Dropping it will make it so you have to take the casing off to continue use
Does not like long USB cables (6' work fine)
Additional Comments:
When it works well, it works for a while. I put this thing through the ringer, it read over a thousand floppy diskettes before quitting on me. Not knowing that they were hit and miss I went out to get another one to continue archiving and it lasted 2 disks. Unfortunately I had already tossed the box as I had assumed it would work like the previous.

Strengths:
Allowed installation of WinXP 32-bit onto a RAID 5 array on a computer without a floppy connector.
Weaknesses:
None
Additional Comments:
I almost did not buy this product because of the last review but when I got to the store the salesman convinced me to give it a try.
I was able to use this drive to format a 3.5" floppy and install the RAID drivers I needed to install WinXP on a new computer without a built in floppy drive.
I don't know what the other guys problem was. This drive did everything I wanted and it was way cheaper than the others.
I have no complaints.

Strengths:
Recognized by system but will not read the floppies.
Weaknesses:
Wants to format all disks. Will not read the data on the floppy.
Additional Comments:
Would not recommend this drive because of its failure to read the floppy and wanting to format. When trying to format a floppy...still fails. This drive fails to get my recommendation. Will be returning it for a refund.
