Strengths:
Great performance, Sleek and compact design, Good battery life
Weaknesses:
Only one M.2 slot, Only one RAM slot, Only 8GB onboard RAM, No TB4, Cord a little short from AC adapter, No sleeve, Very basic BIOS, No per key RGB
Additional Comments:
This laptop is absolutely stunning, all in white, it just looks so cool, for me it’s like an ultrabook on steroids. The screen is great eye candy with it’s 16x10” display IPS, 120Hz is sufficient for me, but some might want a little higher refresh rate, the touchpad is so precise, wide and with the glass feel and smoothness is good. The keyboard, is a pleasure to type on and the keys are very clicky. The RGB lighting isn’t per key, but typing is alright.
This laptop has a RX 6800S, a great performance GPU, good thing that it has a powerful Ryzen 7 6800HS paired with it, since it obtains that smoothness in the more demanding games at higher resolutions and settings. I did not have the chance to test all the games I have last weekend, since it only has a 512GB SSD, but it handles amazingly during gaming sessions in high and ultra settings.
The build is good quality.
Connectivity is above average, for a 14” laptop, with USB-A x2, USB-C x2(both with DP), HDMI 2.0b and a micro SD Card.
The battery life was very satisfactory, giving me up to 10 hours, when laptop was reduced to minimal settings.
The speakers are not the greatest, but much better than other laptops, very acceptable. The fans are silent in normal use, for gaming the noise is acceptable. The vapor chamber handles heat well, but didn’t leave me speechless, stock settings it never went over 96oC while gaming, you might want to consider bringing with you a folding laptop stand, in case you travel to warm climes.
It would have been nice, since there is onboard RAM, that it would have been 16GB and not 8GB, that kind of limits the usable lifespan of this laptop, since you can only upgrade to a maximum of 24GB. The BIOS is a joke, compared to the competition.
I do understand that Thunderbolt 4 is mostly on Intel laptops, but you could of at least made sure USB4 was on it at launch, instead of empty promises.
Another negative, there’s no Kensington lock ,on this destined for mobility laptop.
I question why the power cord is so short for this laptop, for a mobile laptop to need to put the charger on the desk or table next to you, defeats the purpose of mobility, another move from Asus to save a few pennies.
I must say that I find strange that the US, Asia and the Americas south of the US, get a USB-C charger, a gaming mouse, a nice elegant sleeve, on top of the normal charger that comes with the laptop.
But us in Canada, get NOTHING, not even a cheap cloth sleeve to protect our laptop from dust and scratches. Asus, could I suggest you put our laptops in plain boxes to save some money and give us at least a cheap cloth sleeve, nobody cares about your darn box, it will stay in the basement for a year then get chucked in the recycling bin.
I must say I am impressed with this laptop, but not with Asus!
