Strengths:
- The tiny tablet form factor is the main strength of this unique offering. There isn't really much option, if any, on the landscape yet. If you want a Surface Pro that can play games or a business looking steam deck, this is it.
- The design is simple and clean. While there are some ROG aesthetics here and there, it's pretty straight forward and to the point.
- While most Asus laptops I've tried suffer from insufficient cooling and require external remedies, this one seems to be doing better than most. I have not stress tested it though.
- possible future upgrade option with XG Mobile
Weaknesses:
- Price. You do pay a premium. You can get comparable capability in a more conventional platform for less. It's even worse, much worse, if you want a XG Mobile.
- Bing a ROG product, any feature not essential to gaming is an after thought. The back camera is grainy and barely useable, for example.
- There is a lack of ports, a sacrifice made for its size. There are one USB 3.0 port, one exposed USB-C port, which also doubles as the main power input, and one more USB-C port covered as a set for the XG-Mobile interface. As the power supply is a 130W USB-C, most existing USB-C PD dockings are not able to delivery optimal power.
- It does thrash a bit during gaming at the start, as it tries to balance performance and power saving. You can force a performance only mode, but it requires a system restart.
Additional Comments:
This is a niche product and does not enjoy an economy of scale, thus the higher cost. However, if it does fit your needs, there isn't really an alternative out there yet.
