Disappointment

Weaknesses:

This was a garbage product. It died with a fraction of the use of my Samsung SSDs.

Additional Comments:

I have Samsung drives that are several years older than this one and used daily. This drive crapped out in probably a quarter of the use and the Samsungs are still going strong.

Get something else

Strengths:

It was easy to install. BUT....

Weaknesses:

Died in 4 months.

Additional Comments:

It was great while it worked. Then it died after just 4 months. Get something else.

Died within a few months

Strengths:

Expected good performance, good price for size when I got it

Weaknesses:

Poor reliability - may be fringe case, could be indicative of a whole line of defective products

Additional Comments:

Drive performance was pretty good, about what I'd expect from a serial ATA SSD. Unfortunately, it died within a few months of owning it. No machine would detect it at all. This is especially concerning considering the fact that I had used it extremely lightly for that time period, it probably only had at most a dozen hours of operation on it, as the machine it was used in was used very sporadically and seldomly. My usage was normal - typical installation, used as an operating system drive for modern operating systems, with light write usage. While it's only one case, other reviews of the drive mention poor reliability as well. Without data recovery tools, my data on the drive was lost.

Don't buy it.

Strengths:

It is in shape a 2.5" drive form factor parallelogram.

Weaknesses:

Write behaviour is very bad. On any given day it will either work as expected or choke on any write. Sometimes saving a 5KB file causes the SSD to become unresponsive for tens of seconds, other times the file will save quickly as befits an SSD. Many many small file writes overloads it - example: installing software that creates thousands of disk files or unzipping a zipfile containing many thousands of files causes disk utilization to jump to 100% and just stay there. Another example: compiling code using Visual C++ more often than not overloads the drive causing system freeze lasting 10s of seconds.

Additional Comments:

Don't buy it. IDK what WD thinks it is doing, it's perverse. The 500 Blue drives are good solid performers & worth the money, so they release a 510 version that performs... worse.
