Strengths:
Was a great streamer. Was.
Weaknesses:
The last update killed it, could not repair at all, tried everything suggested.
Additional Comments:
Update at own risk, and if buying from Memory express, buy the 4 year warranty you will most likely need it. The shield has gotten worse.

Strengths:
This is solid hardware. It'll handle just about anything you throw at it including 4K content, subject to app support, of course. A free Kodi install will handle most odd formats and fill the void where add-ons provide content for which there is no Google Play Store app.
Weaknesses:
My relationship with this device was good until the last month. Just when I was ready to buy two more Shields for my other rooms, Google Play made a geo-locked app invisible. Not uninstalled, but invisible so that I can't uninstall/reinstall it. Still stinging from that, I was greeted one day with the June 2021 OS update that now injects ads for partner content onto the top 1/3 of the screen. Yeah... you'll be paying $260 to be shown ads. One could argue that loading a different launcher is a solution or that you don't spend that much time on the home screen so what's the point? I guess you need to decide if $260 of your hard-earned money should go to an ad-serving box.
Additional Comments:
June 2021 OS update = $260 for ads.
