Intermittent touch pad ruins it all :(

Strengths of the product

Excellent 14" display packed into 13" size. Super thin bezels, great contrast and colours. Very fast ultrabook. I do mostly web surfing, light Office apps, multitasking but had zero lag on this ultrabook for the week I used it. Facial recognition for signing in worked like a charm (replaces fingerprint reader). Audio was excellent once I tweaked built in equalizer app and downloaded third party app (FxAudio Enhancer). Very good battery once settings tweaked.

Weaknesses of the product

Not very bright display but fine if you stay indoors. Touchpad was sometimes jumpy/non-responsive but VERY intermittent once laptop was being used for 20+ minutes. It'll suddenly stop working for about 20 seconds (if you try to use it'll jump all over the place). I had this exact issue on the Zenbook 13 UX331UA-DS71 which is the other Asus ultrabook Memory Express sells as of Mar 5, 2019. My previous Asus Zenbook (4 years old) worked like a charm but new Zenbooks seem to have defect with their touch pads. BRUTAL. I wiped the laptop, tried updating touchpad drivers, tried generic drivers, did all updates, etc. To no avail, touch pad still intermittent. Seems like a heat dissipation issue. Eventually I had to return this and got an HP ENVY 13-AH0001CA. Touch pad on the HP works like a charm. Sorry Asus, I've always loved you until last 2 Zenbooks I tried recently. Please get your touch pads fixed!

Additional Comments

Excellent laptop but the touch pad issues were a total deal breaker. Hopefully Asus finds a fix for their new Zenbooks and has some sort of recall/fix for these.

Great for Windows, not for Linux

Strengths of the product

Speed, size, weight Full size HDMI port.

Weaknesses of the product

1. The home / end keys are not on the arrow keys, they're on the F keys at the top. I always have to stop typing to look for them when I just want to quickly go to the end of the line. 2. The power button is where my previous computer had the DEL key so I'm constantly turning off the machine when trying to delete a line. 3. Touchpad number pad doesn't work in Ubuntu. 4. Touchpad gets confused and jitters around sometimes in Ubuntu. I have to remove my finger, wait a second, try again. 5. Hibernate / suspend doesn't work in Ubuntu. Every morning when I open the lid, the battery is dead because it was on all night. 6. No audio in Ubuntu, the built in speakers and headphone jack don't work at all, even with the 4.20 kernel which supposedly had a fix just for this. 7. USB-C does not output video with a HDMI adapter in Ubuntu.

Additional Comments

I have 2 of these laptops (Asus UX433) and I also have an Asus UX430, all as work machines. This 433 is the successor to the 430 and is slightly smaller and faster but doesn't work nearly as well. I much prefer using my other 430 since the suspend works when I close the lid, the audio works fine and I can use a USB-C to dual HDMI adapter to get 2 external monitors working in extend mode (3 separate screens). I don't think Asus is making the 430 model anymore but if you can find one and you use Ubuntu, save yourself $300 and get that instead. My second 433 has Windows 10 on it and everything seems to work perfectly with that but I hate Windows so I would rather buy the laptop that's more friendly with Linux. In closing, great laptop if you use Windows, avoid it if you use Ubuntu. My star rating is based on how it works with Windows so I gave it 5 stars even though it barely works at all for my needs.

Weaknesses of the product

Many: Fan goes off constantly because had improper heating. Coil whine. Speed. It is an i7 with 16gbbram but i found it not to be as responsive. I ended up getting a hp x360 spectre and it is wayyy faster even with the i5 model. Speakers often will crackle or shoot out loud bursts. WORST THING: touch pad was finicky as heck. There was a spot on the left side approximately the middle (vertically that would cause the touchpad to jump, this line was about an inch making the touchpad basically unusable. There is a short in thert. Another thing about the touchpad: the numpad thing is super gimicky. In practice it sounds okay, but it is barely functional. Also the space to activate is huge and i constantly activated it.

Additional Comments

I returned it. Not worth it, even if maybe i just got a lemon, im scared about what would happen in say a year. There is just terrible wuality control here. Also: NO USB C CHARGING.
