Strengths of the product

- Gaming Performance - Battery life for a gaming pc (while not gaming) - Style (love the gold trim) - Weight (the think barely weighs anything) - USB C ports (you'd be surprised how many laptops still do not have this feature)

Weaknesses of the product

- Fans Get Kind Loud - If gaming really should have a cooling pad - Speaker placement - Could use a little more storage for the price point.

Additional Comments

I have had several laptops and several gaming pc's and to be honest this laptop keeps up with the best of them. The price point is somewhat high, but that's to be expected when you're looking for a high-end gaming/work laptop. When deciding on what to purchase I was debating between this laptop, an Alienware 13, & an Asus. After speaking with the staff at memory express and doing some research, I decided to give this one a try, and OMG was I so thankful I did. The laptop runs all the games I play at max settings with decent fps. Those games include Overwatch (75 to 100fps), WOW (80+ in raids), HOTS (90+), & Destiny (80+). Yes, I am a blizzard fanboy lol. The only thing keeping from giving this laptop five stars is the 256gb SSD it comes with. In my opinion, it should have a 500gb SSD or more prominent for the price point. Luckily this fixable as they give an additional M.2 slot on the board for upgrading something I did out the gate.

Worthwhile upgrade

Strengths of the product

- Powerful - Thin - Cool (multi-fan) - Proper camera placement

Weaknesses of the product

- fingerprint magnet - Windows Hello - Preloaded security

Additional Comments

The GS65 Stealth Thin 8RE has been an amazing upgrade from my previous ASUS. Helps that it was 5+ years since I bought it. Cooling and design seems to be amazing. Only issue I've come across so far is the laptop is a fingerprint magnet (though I can say this for almost every laptop). For the games I play, it doesn't need to boosting and stays at a comparatively good temperature for a laptop. I'm still working on it, so if there are problems that arise out of the norm I may readjust this.

Strengths of the product

Weaknesses of the product

-Really bad thermal throttling out of the box -False advertising

Additional Comments

This laptop is advertised as having ESS Sabre HIFI (SPDIF) DAC and a SD / SDHC / SDXC Card Reader, neither of which is actually in the laptop I'm not blaming memx since I'm sure they just grabbed the specs from MSI's website

Official Reply from Memory Express:

Hello Jim.

Thanks for your review. We have confirmed with MSI that the SD Card Slot was incorrectly listed on their site for the GS65 Series of Laptops. Your review is responsible for MSI making that correction. Our Site is now correctly showing no SD Card Slot as well on our four GS65 Laptops.

As for the ESS Sabre DAC; it is there. It seems that the current software driver only bypasses the standard realtek DAC for the better Sabre ESS DAC when you use the 3.5mm Headphone Out jack. Yeah, I know...

There is mention of this on MSI.com's forums: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=263037.0

We will update our product pages to reflect this important distinction.
