Strengths of the product
Reasonably Priced for home user Easy To Set Up Quiet Running Lots of Applications including cloud storage, antivirus Browser based GUI Multimedia services supported - capable media server Plenty of documentation Ability to reduce brightness of LEDs
Weaknesses of the product
Documentation seems to require in depth knowledge of the software thus there is a learning curve to using more advanced features Web browser GUI does not handle files larger than 2GB
If one accepts that the 218J is meant for home use, CPU/memory seem reasonable for normal day to day use but it will seem slow during the initial upload phase and assorted tasks such as running antivirus. There is a Windows workaround for the 2GB browser limit (creating a network share) so one does need some Windows admin skills. Some changes have been made to the applications/services and the documentation has not kept pace. For instance, the Cloud sync services seems to be superseded by an application called "Drive". Both exist and both have documentation but "Drive" needs to be uninstalled before installing "Cloud Server" yet the documentation seems a little weak in how to accomplish this task. In other words, expect a certain amount of trial and error to go beyond the basics. Overall, this is a great product (for home use). I installed 2x4TB WD Red drives and the entire setup is extremely quiet. I'd love to give this a 4.5 rating but don't think it's quite perfect.
