Good For Plex

Strengths of the product

- Good operating system - Easy setup - Powerful enough to run a Plex server and stream at 1080p when there aren't many other background tasks running - Intel CPU allows for Plex hardware transcoding and open-source software packages ran through Docker

Weaknesses of the product

- RAM upgrade is pretty much essential if you want to run Plex with any other media management services in the background. - Setup default formatted the HDD with their proprietary drive-cloning RAID setup, which is unable to convert to Basic or any other RAID type. - Third-party software on the official software package store are not always kept up to date

Additional Comments

Bought this to run as a centralized home file server and Plex media server w/ WD Red HDDs. Great software and good hardware for the price. Out of the box it runs my services okay, but needs a bit of extra work to make it great: - Upgrading RAM from the stock 2GB is pretty much necessary if you're running more than just Plex. Plex will be basically inaccessible if you have other intensive background tasks without this. After upgrading I have had zero issues. - Needs Plex Pass to take advantage of the CPU and use hardware transcoding. Also needed to get the latest server software straight from Plex as the official version through Synology's package center is outdated and doesn't support this. Once I worked out all the kinks it's been running Plex and my other services with no problems at all! Very pleased with this little box.
