Strengths of the product

I bought this around Sept, 2018. I used it daily for work, which required encrypted storage. Very fast, completely reliable.

Weaknesses of the product

The software program that you run on your Windows computer to allow access to the encrypted files only runs under an Administrator account. This is stupid; there is no reason to need to give the program admin access, just so you can type in the password to grant access to the external storage. This is just sloppy on the part of Samsung. Other than the above, no problems.

Additional Comments

Excellent, except for having to type in the Windows admin password so that you can then type in the external drive password.

Requires up-to-date USB port, still limited by USB, faster than networking

Strengths of the product

400mb/s write and 600mb/s read on usb 3.1 gen 2. Much faster than spinning disk usb drive. Smaller than m.2 drive + caddy.

Weaknesses of the product

very poor IOPS performance (probably USB limitation). Need USB 3.1 Gen2 to get full speed (about 400mb/s read speed and 200mb/s write speed on usb 3.0).

Additional Comments

I got this to transfer very large files between machines quickly (100GB+ transfers, multiple times per day). It's saved a lot of time in the first week alone. It's not ideal for hot-use data, like running games or VMS directly off of the drive. This won't match the IOPS speed of an actual, installed SSD, so don't expect that out of it.
