WOW, Great Access Point, Super Fast, Awesome Value

Strengths:

Very Fast Inexpensive Secure Great brand name AP Buy at Memory Express as a reputable vendor Connects to all new and old devices Comes with POE to power the unit via ethernet

Weaknesses:

Note this is not a flaw in the AP, but a limitation of old device technology. Be aware that older devices are limited due to old tech, so my iPad2 and Nexus7 v2 are limited to 40mbps down compared to 300mbps+ on newer phones, laptops and devices. However the 40 speed is still better than my ISP device WiFi. FYI, you need ethernet cables to install the unit.

Additional Comments:

I bought 2 at $99 and will order one more at $124 for my family so I don't have to troubleshoot slow WiFi issues for family and friends any more. I have the 300mb cable internet service and we get full speed on both floors in our house. Best Internet purchase in years. No more wires required to enjoy fast internet access!!!

Strengths:

Fast if you can get it to work

Weaknesses:

Cannot find in controller and sometimes cannot connect.

Additional Comments:

Controller does not appear to find the device, but mobile device could, but resetting to factory defaults failed to show up ever again. I will place it in the recycling box and never consider Ubiquiti except for the router which has a web interface so you can actually access and configure it. Must be fine if your lucky and have some magic and would be great for places with a lot of them. I have a lot of computers and servers I manage and never encountered anything like this before.

WOW Factor

Strengths:

I replaced the ASUS AC3100 with a Ubiquiti Unifi USG and Unifi UAP-AC-Lite. There were many dead zones in my house with the AC3100. In a non scientific test, my MacBook Air was able to play Youtube videos no matter the location in my house (upper/main/basement) and I stayed long enough in each location to make sure it was not the buffered video stream that was playing.

Additional Comments:

I was not sure if I should have gone with the UAP-AC-LR or UAP-AC-PRO but I now realize the WiFi coverage will be good enough with the UAP-AC-Lite for my intended wireless usage.

Great Reliable WAP

Strengths:

-Very Easy to configure with Mobile App or DHCP Options -Good signal capabilities including RF Profiling -Reliable Uptime without hiccups -Lightweight - can attach to ceiling tiles without support wires -POE (Those with a date code after 1638 support 802.3af/A) -Feature Rich

Weaknesses:

-Many features depend on having Ubiquiti Unifi Security Gateway or Switches .. which in my own testing are not as good as other brands out there -Adding 802.3af/A support without changing the model number makes sourcing a pain

Additional Comments:

These are the lowest tier models and they out perform many of the high-tier access points from other reputable brands. I went with the AP-AC-Pro a few years back for a school (due to lack of 802.3af support on the LITE at the time) and ended up having to turn the radio power right down (way more than usual) because it was piercing the concrete walls into nearby classrooms. The AP-AC-Lite is the perfect choice when supported by a strong cabled infrastructure in a one-room-one-WAP deployment.

Easy to configure AP

Strengths:

The management software makes it a breeze to set up & reconfigure multiple access points at once. Can put AP clients on a VLAN. Captive guest portal. Can run multiple SSIDs with different settings for each. Great range & throughput. Went 1 year without having to reboot them. POE. The Ubiquiti name.

Weaknesses:

Need a machine to run the management software on, full-time. Difficult to unclip from the mount. The 802.11r roaming feature isn't compatible with most devices.

Additional Comments:

I've installed two of these at home and running Ubuntu and the management system in a VM. The Unifi v5 software is great if you have a machine you can run it on. You need to run the management software for these to work properly, it's not just for one-time configuration.

Great For Business and Home Use

Strengths:

I have installed these for many clients over the past few months to replace the Engenius APs that kept failing. Have had about 30 of these installed in clients homes and businesses for about 4-6 months and never needed to power cycle any of them. I also really like the Ubiquiti Unifi Controller set up, though many have also been used with non Unifi systems. I will be putting one of these in my home shortly.

Weaknesses:

None as of yet

Additional Comments:

I am very pleased with the units.

Great WAP

Strengths:

Easy to Install/Setup Excellent Management Capabilities Great Coverage Area

Weaknesses:

None that I have experienced yet.

Additional Comments:

The UAP-AC-Lite delivers as promised. Used this unit to replace a Cisco WAP and I am very impressed so far.
