Like Cisco Meraki without huge costs

Strengths:

This security gateway pretty much does everything you'd expect from an enterprise-level security gateway! We've been putting these in place for all our SMB clients due to their feature-rich design and remote accessibility. We have about 40 in service across Alberta (over the past 6-7 years) and haven't had one fail us yet!

Weaknesses:

This is not a home router. If you are not familiar with networking and want to use UniFi's excellent equipment, we'd recommend finding someone who knows how to install and configure these products. For example, you can't set this security gateway up by logging into it; you need to be running UniFi controller software somewhere else and join this device to that software. The greatest complaint we have with these devices is that sometimes, when you have to update the inform path, you might have to enter your command two or three times in a SSH session before it succeeds. Also, you can't see active VPN sessions in the controller GUI; you need to SSH into the gateway and view active sessions that way.

Additional Comments:

We run these everywhere and highly recommend them if you're serious about network management and security.

Nice little Firewall Router

Strengths:

Sets up with minimal headache as far as firewalls go. The GUI is different at first but then you see the genius behind it. If you have other Ubiquiti hardware in your setup, then you fall in love with the GUI. There are a few quirks for first time user new to the Ubiquiti environment but when you compare it to others in the same price range... THERE IS NOTHING EVEN CLOSE to this level that is that feature rich and capable. Just remember the price point before you start complaining because you can't be comparing this to an enterprise piece of hardware that is over $1000 and be expecting it to be the same. There some features that are there but heat dissipation is not it's strong suit so make sure you keep it installed in an area with good airflow.

Weaknesses:

Gets quite toasty so make sure you have good airflow around it. Haven't had any heat failure or heat related issues but I could see it happening down the road.

Additional Comments:

If you are expecting the world then go pay 7 times or more to begin with. If you want a well rounded, feature rich firewall router with cloud management, this USG UniFi Security Gateway Enterprise Gateway Router will check most of those boxes. Great start to building a home or home office network.

WAN Manager

Strengths:

Very few strengths - the provisioning of this device is overly problematic. Cloud based management is buggy, and you need to have an internet connection to use the cloud based platform. Problem is this is the gateway so if your configuring it from the cloud, well - you get the point. Um - nice form factor, pretty colors....

Weaknesses:

Doesn't like to be setup with anything very complicated (I.E. /23 netmask). The adoption into your cloud based management software is quirky, and unreliable. Wouldnt allow the DHCP list to be limited from .100 to .200. Didn't like its IP address at .254, etc. Very basic gateway functionality a pita to setup. Had high hopes for the usage/statistics, but they are widgets, with 5 minute averages, so your not getting instantaneous performance values. No time of data management policies. Looks like good hardware, but the software is brutal.

Additional Comments:

Save your money and time. I returned the product.
