Strengths of the product

1. Nice design 2. Web user interface is rich of features, and a lot of applications.

Weaknesses of the product

1. This QNAP is for home, SOHO usage and hardware isn't designed to meet with the enterprise quality. As a result, make sure you frequently do the data backup, otherwise it will cost you efforts, money to get your data back. 2. I bought this QNAP TS-451 from ME. It had been running well for more than 2 years. After a reboot, per recommendation of QNAP, this NAS didn't come back. Opened a ticket with QNAP. It's the motherboard of TS-451 died. The cost of repair is approximately the purchase of the new one.

Additional Comments

This QNAP NAS is for the SOHO usage .It's not as reliable as the enterprise NAS. Make sure you do your data backup.

Strengths of the product

Easy to set up & relatively easy to add hard drives Very fast file transfer to and from unit Works reasonably well as a multimedia hub, which is what I bought it for The HDMI out interfaces well with my home theatre system, although determining which HD apps work best takes some experimenting. Updating of apps is fast and efficient. Connecting to the Internet by way of the HD apps is easy and works well. I tend to use it instead of my computer, since the NAS is always on.

Weaknesses of the product

Video Station app does not recognize external drives as multimedia drives (my Synology NAS does) but the PlexServer app and one of the others does. To use the HD apps, you will absolutely need a keyboard and mouse, but these work very well once connected. Some apps work best with the supplied remote, so again some experimenting is required. The HD apps that work with the HDMI interface are separate from the apps that work with the general network connection.

Additional Comments

The unit is working well as a multimedia hub (which is the primary reason I purchased it). It does take a while to determine which of the HD apps work well for multimedia playback. File transfer is extremely fast, in particular from my computer to the NAS which is very positive. After working with the unit for a month or so (on an irregular basis) I'm pleased with the purchase, but it has taken a while to get to that point.
