It'll do in a pinch

Strengths:

It works. Add storage or use for a laptop that is missing mounting hardware or a SATA adapter.

Weaknesses:

Front cover mounting holes are not quite standard (measurement is off by a mm or two) so if you want to use the front plate off of your old optical drive you may have to trim one of the pins on the plate. Mine came with a free dent on top.

Additional Comments:

I installed this in a Dell Latitude E5520. The IT guy at the business removed the hard drive, and he also removed the SATA adapter used in this laptop. While waiting for a new one, I purchased this to use temporarily. It worked, but the pin on the back of the Dell optical drive had to be bent a little to make it fit this dock and fit inside the laptop (that pin lets you secure the dock). The holes on the front used to mount the front plate work with the chincy plate it come with, but it's off by a few millimeters if you want to install the one off of the old optical drive for a factory fit. Although it looks like the LED is on all the time, it's actually not. It flashes brighter when the drive is being accessed. Note, mine came with a free dent already installed.
