Not quite

Strengths of the product

Good price Strong signal, reaches the corners of my house Improved interface for management

Weaknesses of the product

Drops 5 KHz band constantly

Additional Comments

Working with Dlink support running latest beta firmware at their suggestion...which also suggests they have beta firmware to try and deal with problems. Should have known not to get Dlink...way too many problems with these in the past. Next time I will stick with Linksys and Asus.

Not a good product.

Strengths of the product

Easy to setup.

Weaknesses of the product

Doesn't work consistently.

Additional Comments

Do not buy this router. After the first month it stopped working. No internet traffic, but local traffice worked fine. Three rounds with D-Link support and it didn't get better. MemoryExpress return policy is too restrictive, I don't want to RMA this router. I want to return it. I won't buy products like this from MemoryExpress anymore because of the return policy.

Works Great as an Access Point with DD-WRT

Strengths of the product

DD-WRT firmware compatible

Weaknesses of the product

Additional Comments

I deployed two of these in my house as access points after flashing them with DD-WRT firmware. I am not using the router component, but with or without DD-WRT I suspect that works just fine. As pure access points they are working very well for covering our house front to back with 5 GHz speed with no obvious issues. The price point is great and getting better.

Works, but be sure to roll back the firmware for best results!

Strengths of the product

Works as advertised *with original firmware*... good, stable performance in both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. I get my full 30 Mbit/s internet speed even when two floors downstairs from the router.

Weaknesses of the product

Stability goes out the window when using the latest firmware (1.04). My YouTube app on my iPad constantly drops connection, and when I RDP to one of my PCs through VPN it constantly disconnects. STICK WITH (OR DOWNGRADE TO) THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE! (See Summary section for details.)

Additional Comments

Stick with the original firmware, which is 1.03.B04. As of Oct 2016, you can still get this firmware from D-Link's official site (you'll just have to use Google to find it). The release notes claim it's only meant for the A1 hardware revision, but I was able to downgrade my A3 revision without any issues. This isn't the first time I've seen D-Link screw things up with a later firmware revision.... same thing happened to me with a DIR-615.

D-LINK DIR-859 AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router

Strengths of the product

- Getting full bars on 2.4ghz throughout house. - No decrease in speed over lan and wifi. - 4 gigabit lan ports. - AC 1750 so it should be good for a couple of years. - Cheaper priced than other similar spec'd routers.

Weaknesses of the product

- No unexpected issues.

Additional Comments

For $99 on sale i couldn't pass this up. When setting it up, i followed the directions to a tee but still had some connection problems where the router could not be seen by my devices. After 15 min of unplugging and plugging in the router and switch i have in different variations, i finally got my devices to recognize it. I expected something like this to happen. Overall, this a decent router with decent specs. I now get full bars on 2.4ghz in my 3000 sq/ft house. Time will tell on reliability.
