Strengths of the product

The colors are nice.

Weaknesses of the product

Super slow. Doesn't even reach USB2 transfer speeds.

Additional Comments

For a USB3 attached hdd, this is a bad hdd.

Very good all around portable drive

Strengths of the product

USB 3.0 reads/writes break 120MB/s on large file transfers, very compact, very quiet, runs cool.

Weaknesses of the product

Cable is WAY too short, combined with a proprietary cable interface makes placement of the drive extremely limited. Only way to extend it is to buy a female/male extension cable.

Additional Comments

Keep in mind that file transfer speeds will vary depending on several factors. Batch reads/writes of small files will be a good deal slower than large files, fragmented files also read/write a lot slower, plugging into a USB 2.0/1.0 port will also greatly reduce speeds. This would get 5 stars if the cable interface wasn't proprietary on the drive side or at least came with a reasonable length cable.

good backup disk drive

Strengths of the product

Simple design. Good case. Nice solid feel. Available in four colors: black, blue, red, silver. Average speed of 26.8 MB/s on USB 2.0 ports. May be faster with USB 3.0 ports, but don't count on it. No errors in 8 TB of testing with full disk writes and read verify -- 79 hours of activity!

Weaknesses of the product

None. Drive throttles down to 20 MB/s under heavy use, probably to reduce heat.

Additional Comments

I like disk drives that are just disk drives: no hardware encryption, no virtual CD devices of unwanted software, no AC power adapter, etc. Drives of 2 TB are the biggest you can use with MBR partitions on old Windows XP and others. The disk drive testing software can be found at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Erase-Disk.shtml (may need to use the direct download link).
