another drive, another good purchase

Strengths:
Yes, another review for the same external disk drive! I have bought several of these, in various colors, and they have all worked well. No errors, reasonable speed, nice solid feel to the case. This new one has a slightly fancier case design than previous releases of the same drive.
Weaknesses:
Since the drive is powered by the USB cable, it is slower than larger external drives with an A/C adapter. Peak sustained transfer rate is about 30 MB/s. I still like these drives better, because they are smaller and have only the one cable (USB).
Summary:
There are unconfirmed reports that these Samsung drives work better on Macintosh computers than recent models of Western Digital drives. Macintosh users should reformat drives for the HFS+ file system (or Time Machine), rather than accepting the default NTFS format (PC). General advice is that any new disk drive should be fully tested before you start using it for your important files. There are free programs for this, including a Java applet (see earlier review below).

Strengths:
Size is great. Easy to care to different locations. Works in portable environment as well as desktop use. Like the blue colour, making it easy to find on messy desk!
Weaknesses:
Haven't found any problems so far - used for month.
Summary:

good backup disk drive

Strengths:
Simple design. Good case. Nice solid feel. Available in four colors: black, blue, red, silver. Average speed of 26.4 MB/s on USB 2.0 ports. May be faster with USB 3.0 ports, but don't count on it. No errors in 8 TB of testing with full disk writes and read verify -- 80 hours of activity!
Weaknesses:
None. Drive throttles down to 20 MB/s under heavy use, probably to reduce heat.
Summary:
I like disk drives that are just disk drives: no hardware encryption, no virtual CD devices of unwanted software, no AC power adapter, etc. Drives of 2 TB are the biggest you can use with MBR partitions on old Windows XP and others. The disk drive testing software can be found at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Erase-Disk.shtml (may need to use the direct download link).
