Have one. The power cord, not adapter prematurely failed.

Strengths of the product

Works as expected. I use it for cloning HDDs to SSDs. Also for general HDD drive access.

Weaknesses of the product

The power cord (the one from wall to power adapter) failed after minimal use. It is the same power cord that comes with every new desktop computer, desktop power supply or many new monitors Most people have a few spare ones around the house. It suddenly started disconnecting and power indicator ligh went off. Thought it was the power adapter. Thought I would change out the wall-to-adapter cord. (Cheapest part) Now works fine again.

Additional Comments

Would have given 5 stars except for the power cord.

Poor Quality Power Supply

Strengths of the product

Worked as expected the first two times I did hard drive transfers.

Weaknesses of the product

On the third use the power supply failed. Of course, just out of the warranty period.

Additional Comments

Even for an inexpensive unit, I expect a power supply to last more than 3 hours. Consider this a "one-and-done" device.

Doesn't take any form of abuse

Strengths of the product

2 Seperate cables allows multiple applications, not just file transfer. Will kill itself instead of your hard drive if there is a problem (At least in my experience).

Weaknesses of the product

Does not handle abuse well at all (not saying that I intentionally abuse them but accidents happen). If you have a lot of network drives or partitions the card readers may cause problems being able to see your disc due to running out of disc space Power Cable would do better if it was longer so it could be left in place and no extensions were needed.

Additional Comments

Do not leave this plugged into your system when you are not using it, and be careful not to pull on the USB cable at all (with, say, your foot while you are turning in your chair). If this falls off a tower when reading a disc, it will die. Too much abuse to the cable will also kill it, such as pulling it out with the cord instead of the head of the USB connection. Would advise this product if you have one or two drives to get data off of.

Strengths of the product

Easy to use Well built Power supply has on/off switch for HDD

Weaknesses of the product

Additional Comments

Bought this unit over the USB 3 one because my systems are older. Needed to get my GF's data off a Maxtor IDE drive that I pulled out of her LaCie whose power supply died (a very common problem!). The drive had gigs of professional photos that she was VERY adamant about protecting, and I wasn't about to trust a certain other device that had a sordid rep for smoking hard drives. This unit performed flawlessly and the on/off switch for the HDD power is a great touch! Reliable and super easy to use
