Does not acctualy support Link aggregation

Strengths of the product

Inexpensive

Weaknesses of the product

After a week of back and forth with tech support and working with other NAS owners via forums, it has been proven that this switch does not fully support Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). It will not copy from one NAS to two PC's at more then 1GB/s speed.

AWESOME SWITCH

Strengths of the product

Powerful - versatile - inexpensive ((this is an outstanding switch. NOT FOR amateurs. This is a managed switch - not plug and play. It shouldn't get bad ratings from people because they're uneducated in networking))

Weaknesses of the product

None at all. - I use this just fine wit a Motorola modem........ and?? Seems like previous reviewer thought this was plug and play.

Additional Comments

Look, the comments besides my own, generally fall into two categories. There are the comments from those who know what they're doing and then comments from those that don't. If you don't know what trunking is, or what a VLAN is, I'd recommend you buy something that is a little bit more your speed. This is a managed switch. If you take the time to learn about all of the features that this switch has to offer, you will not only find it easier to configure, but also be able to enjoy it.

Avoid with Shaw Motorola Modem

Strengths of the product

Worked (sort of) for about three months, power cycling fixed most issues but needed to be done about once/week.

Weaknesses of the product

Confuses Shaw's Motorola modem so that it only acknowledges one of the two pieces of hardware that are plugged in to the switch. Took hours of effort on a regular basis to fix. We changed the routers, changed out the modem, tried re-setting the switch - no dice. Changed to an Asus 5-port yesterday and it works like a charm.

Additional Comments

This came highly recommended by various sources but was disappointing. Given all the positive reviews, it probably works better with a different modem or a different ISP but avoid it if you have the Shaw Motorola modem. It's not worth the hassle or expense when a cheaper Plug-N-Play switch works much better right out of the box.

Strengths of the product

I love the hardware design, metal case is very attractive feature. Fast too, I had a an older unmanaged GS108 switch before, transfer speeds from my linux fileserver were usually around 830Mbps, with the GS108T speeds were usually 60Mbps faster, normally sitting around 890Mbps.

Weaknesses of the product

Price

Additional Comments

Solid little switch, love that it can be powered via PoE.
