Very Nice Motherboard

Strengths:

-RGB -Instructions were clear -Sleek design

Additional Comments:

Very easy to install for beginners, memory express tech were very helpful with tech issues. My 2 slots of RAM fit nicely and don't interfere with my CPU cooler. I was looking to go for an RGB build, so the RGB dragon on this motherboard was a nice touch. So far very satisfied with this motherboard in my first PC build.

Amazing z690 DDR4 motherboard.

Strengths:

4x M.2 Drive slots are easy to find and install. Support various DDR4 Rams. Design of BIOS are looking good. Big Cpu cooler fits on to the motherboard.(NH-D15S) RGB on motherboard was nice. Nice software.

Additional Comments:

Great price. minimalistic but has tons of features. easy to figure out how to install pins and etc. good looking Motherboard!

Nice DDR4 Board.

Strengths:

Very good ddr4 board, and able to support all my 4 16GB 4000cl18 DDR4 ram. The board is able to oc my 12900ks very well.

Weaknesses:

Bugs with the msi mystic light app, after installation, my pc will not completely shut down via the windows 11 shut down button. hope they will fix it soon. Not just this motherboard, I also tried MSI b550 unify with AMD 5950x, and the same thing happens. The only way to fix is to uninstall the mystic light app. (2022 July 06).

Additional Comments:

Overall very good board. Good hardware.

Great for Alder Lake DDR4 Build

Strengths:

Very nice board to work with. Great features for the price.

Additional Comments:

Fan headers and USB headers were well placed. Ample number of m.2 and USB slots. RGB effects are a nice touch.

Very nice 12th Gen DDR4 Motherboard

Strengths:

-Aesthetics was one of my criteria and it definitely has good looking shields and the rgb dragon. -Decent instructions on the manual -Supports PCIe 5.0 for future upgrades, plenty of connection for fan control and argb control on mobo. Really liked the way the m.2 is secured without a screw making it easier to install. -BIOS was straight forward and the first page contained the most relevant data without looking for them.

Weaknesses:

Most of these comments is targeted for someone like myself who hasn't upgraded a PC in 10 years but here is what I found paint points: -The connector for aio pump text was not aligned with the cpu connector text so it was confusing but with instructions and maybe logic it made sense since both of the pins for cpu and aio was next to each other -This is more of an improvement for most motherboards out there but ASUS designed a button to release the PCIe slot without fighting your way through components or potentially damaging one. -Aesthetics wise, generally was what I was looking for and well thought out but the wifi and bluetooth dongle is a little basic especially for this price range

Additional Comments:

Overall as someone who just upgraded their PC after 10 years, the general feel of this motherboard is well designed and thought out. As someone who hasn't touched the BIOS in years, it was nice to see the most critical information on the BIOS right off the bat to confirm whether or not the components in the system is recognized or for troubleshooting purposes. The aesthetics for this motherboard was definitely a plus and won me over, compared to other gen 12 DDR4 motherboards. Definitely heading towards the right direction.

Has better memory overclocking potential than the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A

Strengths:

- Tested both an ASUS Strix Z690-A and this MSI Edge Z690. This motherboard can boot up to 5,000 MHz Gear 2 on Samsung B-die on pretty much any BIOS version, while the ASUS Strix could not boot at all. It also trains very easily, and will accept a lot of strict settings that you throw at it. - The BIOS is significantly easier to navigate and has explanations for all settings as well as value readouts for every timing, which is still a missing feature on ASUS boards after all this time.

Weaknesses:

- Some of the memory timings cannot be tightened further, even though ASUS boards allow you to tighten them all the way to the very bottom if you wish. I feel like MSI shouldn't set limitations like these, as it should be up to the user to determine overclock stability themselves. - One of the M.2 heatsinks has a loose screw which can only be fixed by gluing it to motherboard. Seems to be a known issue for this motherboard. Dropped a star for this alone. - No white colour variant for Westerners, which I feel is a huge shame as it would've matched my PC look. Apparently it's limited to Asia only? Not sure why that is a thing.

Additional Comments:

Overall, a strong motherboard that I feel has beaten the ASUS Strix equivalent this generation (again, I bought both boards to test, so this is not biased). Aside from the loose M.2 heatsink (the primary reason why this is 4/5 stars) and the lack of the white colour variant, I am quite satisfied.

Mr

Additional Comments:

This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program. After 8 years with my MSI Big Bang XPower II X99 motherboard, it's a good time to upgrade to Z690. This MPG Z690 Edge Wifi DDR4 uses high quality components. Installation is smooth and there is no issue at all running with DDR4 4000. Microsoft Windows 11 works perfectly.

Awesome DDR4 board

Strengths:

Spiffy-lookin RGB /w multiple RGB headers Easy to use BIOS menu with option for advanced settings and easy to overclock (my first time doing this so I'm unsure if its always this easy lol) Best option IMO for an Alder Lake DDR4 board MSI Center is awesome for programming all RGB components. No issues with detecting all RGB components (unlike the s*** show I experienced with Dragon Center) Much cheaper than the high-end DDR5 alternatives

Weaknesses:

I only have one grievance with this board. I'm not sure what they are called, but when I went to screw down the rear of my first SSD which is in the first slot, the screw post with internal threads is not connected to the board. It looks as though MSI uses some sort of bonding compound to secure these posts in place. But apparently they didn't use enough on this one post. So once I tried to screw down the rear of the SSD's heatsink cover, the post just free-balls. I can literally pull it right off the board with ease. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the post and tighten the screw, however now the rear of the heatsink cover isn't completely flush like the others. No, I didn't initially over-torque it either. Hence why I didn't give the board 5 stars.

Additional Comments:

This was my first build but it seemed to be the best DDR4 board that I could get my hands on due to supply issues. I initially looked at getting a Steel Legend but they were unavailable and I wanted to go with a black build. Black is faster right? right?!?! I would have liked to go the DDR5 route, but with a top end DDR5 mobo and the unavailable DDR5 ram, I would have paid much more and waited way longer to get the build together. Esthetically it is really nice with the RGB dragon, especially when used in conjunction with an MSI rgb aio like the coreliquid 360R like i have. Definitely recommend this board to anyone looking to go with DDR4.
