Quality Motherboard With Great Specs

Strengths:

I was debating whether to get this board or the MSI Tomahawk B550. I'm not disappointed I decided on the Asus Rog Strix b550-f Motherboard, and I got it on sale. Installation was straight forward and the manual was an easy read. After installing all the necessary drivers, OS, etc. I did experience random reboots and connection issues for a couple weeks. Asus issued updates for the LAN connectivity and I updated to the latest BIOS version 2604. I have since had no issues. The board is a strong performer with solid VRM's, enough fan headers, and other features that may be found on higher end motherboards. Overall, it's a solid motherboard and a great choice for Ryzen 5000 series processors.

Weaknesses:

I can't pinpoint why I experienced random reboots and this only occured when the PC was idling. I had to disable c-states in the BIOS and the random reboots stopped.. As far as the LAN issues, connectivity would randomly dropped from time to time. Updated the latest LAN firmware version 1.0.2.14 and have had no further issues. Although version 1.0.2.8 worked as well.

Additional Comments:

It's a great motherboard and well equipped to handle the Ryzen 5000 processors. I didn't install any bloatware that came with this board. The price for this board is comparable to other brands with similar features, and getting it on sale was even better. It's a welcome upgrade from the Asus Prime X470 Pro that I purchased almost 3 years ago.

Good Motherboard with Flakey NIC

Strengths:

Good power delivery AMD

Weaknesses:

Intel i255-v chipset is very flakey, and will randomly spike huge packet loss. Adds 30-40ms ping on local network. Websites randomly fail to load. Games will drop you every hour or so. Your internet speed will also be half (or less) what it should be. My 750Mbps fibre connection was showing as 150Mbps. If you have these problems after upgrading drivers via Armory Crate or Intel site, the solution is to roll back the driver all the way to 1.0.1.4 via this installer: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/04LAN/I225V_Intel_Gigabit_Ethernet_Driver_V1.0.1.4_WIN10_64-bit.zip - Remove the driver, and reboot. I had to do this multiple times as the driver kept coming back. I removed all Asus software as I thought it might be auto-installing the driver via Armory service. - Run above driver installer package (will not give any feedback if it works, just a quick pop up) - Reboot - Verify via device manager that 1.0.1.4 driver is installed.

Additional Comments:

Good board, but drivers and firmware from Intel will cause you nightmares. Intel has apparently acknowledged this as a hardware problem, and will be releasing a new revision (B3) of the chipset. Until that is proven, I'd avoid any motherboards with the i225-v 2.5GB intel chipset.

Really good motherboard but a bit pricy

Strengths:

-Powerful VRMS for delivering power to the cpu. Great for higher end power hungry cpus -No chipset fans so it’s quieter and more reliable - 2 M.2 slots with heat sinks, one of which is pcie4.0 for the fastest SSDs -looks really nice and is reliable

Weaknesses:

-expensive compared to other b550 boards but this is negated during sales making it an even more compelling buy.

Additional Comments:

Very capable motherboard with features usually reserved for higher end boards but is more expensive then other b550 boards.

A nice looking and quality product that works great but is a bit pricy compared to other options

Strengths:

-great VRMS ie great power delivery for the cpu so many power hungry options can be used. -no chipset fans so it’s quiet and reliable -2 M.2 slots with heat sinks and 1 is pcie4.0 Bios flashback button so you can update the bios with only a USB flash drive, great for those getting this mobo for the ryzen 5000 cpus this feature is really handy.

Weaknesses:

-expensive however when it does come on sale it’s more reason to get it.

Additional Comments:

A solid mobo with lots of features but it’s more expensive then most b550 boards. (Still cheaper then x570s)
