Don't believe the hate

- Strengths:
- Instantly recognized by the ASUS M5A97 motherboards that ME has in stock without a BIOS update. The six cores provide great performance in multi-threaded games like Dead Rising 2 and GTA4 when there are many agents to manage. Very cool at stock settings and while "turbo" gimmick kicks in.
- Weaknesses:
- Temps rise fast when overclocked even slightly. Core temperatures read strangely when CPU usage is low, sometimes reading below room temperature. As mentioned by others this CPU may need a BIOS update to be flashed to your motherboard, so do your homework.
- Summary:
- You really can't beat the price and power for this. Using the AI Tuner in the UEFI BIOS for the M5A97, I got an immediate, stable overclock to 3.8GHz. I went from an old dual core X2 6400+ to this, so it was a substantial change for my games. Unlike my previous dual core setup, no game has yet suffered from lack of CPU availability, and I can even use fraps on the 6th core without disturbing my game performance. Highly recommend if you want to save $150+ on an i5 or i7 setup.
does NOT work with windows 7 virtualization XP mode

- Strengths:
- runs cool
easy install
- Weaknesses:
- Documented and I tested it does NOT work with windows 7 pro 64 bit virtualization.
90 % of the way through the 500 MB download install, it just suddenly fails for no reason.
The current "patch" you can get ahold of does not address this forum documented issue.
ALL benchmarks show it slower than intel I5 2500k for the same price.
it took some tweaking in the bios to get it to recognize and run the 1600 MHz RAM @ 1600 MHz and not 1333.
- Summary:
- I have never owned an intel CPU since 1990. I have always bought AMD or Cyrix.
This is not a bad buy, but if I had waited a bit, I would have gotten an intel I5 combo boards that memory express has, for the same price.
Exactly what I wanted

- Strengths:
- -Cost Effective
-Best value for cost on the market
-Delivers a huge jump from the 1st generation of dual and quad cores.
- Weaknesses:
- -FX series doesn't live up to all the hype in performance.
-Some motherboards will require an update before using it.
-Hardware is too advanced for the software that cannot recognize the potential of the six cores.
- Summary:
- I rated a 5/5 because this was exactly what I wanted. Not all the performance critiques on the FX processors are accurate and it really depends on what you want to do with it. I purchased this while it was on sale, and if I had paid twice as much (at least) for a better intel i7 series I would have only seen a small gain in the applications I want to use. I am happy with my choice.

- Strengths:
- - Fast multi core solution
- Idle load temps are excellent
- 24/40C /stock with provided HSF
- Unlocked
- AM3+ Motherboards are affordable and feature rich
- Pricing is coming down quickly
- Weaknesses:
- - Reviews do not give a good indicator to how good these chips are
- Included HSF works well for stock setups only
- Had to price match as MemX wasn't reflecting new prices as of Jan10/11
- Microsoft still working on Win 7 updates for the Bulldozer
- Summary:
- I picked this cpu up for my mother's upgrade and after seeing it perform plan on getting another amd setup to replace our secondary computer. We have a PII 9204x in there right now and use a 2500k build for our main. I'd have no problems jumping on this one at all. Looking online I expect this particular cpu to be in the higher end i3 price range soon.. and that's scoop worthy pricing since it's better then that.
Excellent buy

- Personally I would say it is a step up from my phenom II. It runs really fast and low temperatures. I don't know what all the negative responses are for and you have to except this is a new technology so it may take time to get all the bugs out. Well worth the price.
- Weaknesses:
- Can't think of one
- Summary:
- Good buy!
