- Laughed when I first saw such a small sized card called Colossus! However, later I admitted that this card is really Colossus in terms of recording quality. It records impressive quality HD from a Cable box via component connection. Encryption is no problem. Latest driver must be installed first. Note that blaster set up with newer Motorolla DCX3200 HD STB was unsuccessful because the learning code could not be found and I had to switch back to my old and bulky Motorolla 6200 HD box for which blaster setup took less than 5 minutes.
Bundled ArcSoft ShowBiz is useless at best. Cutting and encoding the recordings may be tricky but any good commercial software can do the job. I use Cyberlink PowerDirector for cutting the TS/M2TS files and Cyberlink MediaEspresso for offline encoding them to mp4 for iPAD or Android pads. This reduces the size of HD movies from around 10 to 2 Gigabytes with good quality for viewing and smaller size for archiving. An advantage over the older external HD PVR model is that recording and scheduling is via WinTV software that is supported by Hauppauge. I'm very pleased with this card.
