Strengths:
- Huge Capacity
- Decent Performance
- 512b Sectors
Weaknesses:
Summary:
Been running 8 of these drives in my Solaris file server for 6 months now without a hitch. Great drives.

Good for backup

Strengths:
Good price for 3TB
Quiet
Good speed, I got 100+ MB/s
Raid 5 compatible
Weaknesses:
5 platters vs WD Green drive's 4 platters design, so it's a bit hotter than my WD Green drive, but still acceptable.
Summary:
The reason I choose Hitachi 5K3000 over WD Green is that WD Green drive doesn't support RAID 5, so if you want to set up a raid5 hard drive array, forget WD Green.

fine drive, could get better reviews.

does what it is made to do.
Fast for sustained file transfers but latencies are typical of 5400RPM drives.
Better quality than WDC drives, less hassles in general.
Weaknesses:
Pricier than WDC 3tb green drive, likely because it is better.
Not as speedy as SDD drives, but you get what you pay for.
Summary:
Ideal for non-OS / USB / ESATA usage. 5400rpm hard drives are not ideal for operating systems or RAID, but do work. 3TB has issues with older operating systems and some hardware; no need for ignorant negative ratings from Dave Reid. Not Hitachi's fault that other people don't code hardware to support 2+TB hard drives. Give negative ratings if you have something constructive to criticize.

Intialize only on a Internal or External eSata port.

Strengths:
Good quality drive especially for backup purposes.
Weaknesses:
If try to initialize this drive installed in a USB external enclosure, even one that says it us supported like the VANTEC SuperSpeed USB3 it will only see 740GB of diskspace. It needs to initalized on an internal or external eSata port with the GPT format. You can take it an install it in the Vantec Superspeed 3 external enclosure and it will see the full space. The software that Hitachi provides for download is next to useless, it could not see the drive and refused to install.
Summary:
Good drive. Software useless but not required for a data drive.

WHAT? REALLY.........

Had a problem a few years ago with buying the first 2TB hard drive but here i was again buying the new 3TB internals. Had it for 3 weeks and its worked great! Does what it says for a great price. Thanks
Weaknesses:
5K3000
Summary:
G2G

Great drives so far

Strengths:
- Good speed for 5400rpm (100-112mb/s copying over SATAII for lots of large files is what I've experienced)
- True 512byte sectors if you use an older OS (I am using Windows 7, format GPT for storage drive, no issues)
- Quiet
- HUGE
Weaknesses:
- None so far
Summary:
Bought two of these on sale for 139.99 each, very good price (0.047/GB versus about 0.04/GB for the 2TB). Only had them for about 2 weeks but no issues so far, fast sequential copying, quiet operation. Very happy with my first Hitatchi HD purchase, too bad they were just acquired by WD, one less major player in the market.
