Easy to setup, easy to use if want BASIC use
Was up and running as soon as HD was formatted for BASIC use
Works across multiple platforms (tried XP, Vista, MacOS on computers, phones and portables with wired LAN and Wi-Fi)
Built in print server allows you to share a usb printer over network
Uses very little real estate
Weaknesses:
Advanced setup is not for amateurs
PS3 struggles with some files
Cost seems high for a device this cheaply made (Built-in fan a bit loud too)
Media Server setup not pre-loaded for PS3/X-box: had to load it off disc
NO support, FAQs, firware update or etc. from manufacturer
Summary:
My router has advanced setup: password entry/use, MAC filtering, built-in hardware firewall, etc. running. Getting all the "little tweeks" done to the device to work on multiple platforms (had many friends come over to try access with their Windows, MAC and PS devices incl. phones & portables) on my system took 6 hours... but I've never set one up and concider myself decently computer savvy. Did not try Android but hope to.
Very Good device if you have a very basic and no security setup.
Easy to setup, easy to use.
Was up and running in minutes.
Works across multiple platforms.
Built in print server allows you to share a usb printer over network.
Uses very little real estate.
Weaknesses:
Sad performance.
Very slow, nowhere near specs.
PS3 struggles with some files.
Very little manufacture support.
Cost seems high for a device this cheaply made.
Summary:
Used on a home network with a DLink extreme gaming router.. I had much better performance from my 1GHz file server running Ubuntu 9 & it was much more configurable. As mentioned above, my PS3 struggled with some files where it would read the same file from my old media server. No help from vantec website, no up to date firmware. Save your money and buy a cheap used PC, put ubuntu server edition on it with mediatomb. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I'd expected a little more out of the box, e
