- GUI could be better but all and all this Boxee Box, works great after about 5 hours of trying to get it to find my movie files on my pc. Make sure you have a windows 7 log-in password set up and if you do upgrade your Boxee Box software. Make sure you change the render method from Advanced GLSL to Auto Detect to keep your videos looking clear
- Weaknesses:
- No dir switch gay if you ask me
needs to reboot every now and then just like windows 7
Price this should be on more then $100.00
- Summary:
- Hey it works it does what it says it does be happy with that!
Great little unit.

- Strengths:
- Great remote
No issues with playback
Apps work great
Fast
Social networking support
- Weaknesses:
- Music could be presented better
Locks up once in a while, usually if you don't shut it down at night, easily fixable with reboot.
- Summary:
- It's better and has more features than any other media player in the same price range. I have had this thing for over a year now and there are no issues. Yea you have to make sure your media is named properly but this thing is going out and doing an IMDB search for the meta info, so that makes a whole lot of sense.
Great unit, Great price.

- This thing is great! Sure the GUI could be better but I can find something in any GUI out there, for any product, that needs improvement. I'm not sure how the heck you are naming your files to have trouble but maybe revisit your own problem with that before you blame a device... I had no problem at all. Streaming problems... Again this is generally a result of your poor network so do a little work with that before you blame a device... I had no problem with that either. For under $200 = awesome!
- Weaknesses:
- GUI could be perfected. Remote could be improved but just get a remote app for your iPad or the like. Not a weakness... Install pc app and stream mkv to your iPad... Sweet! So not many weaknesses.
- Summary:
- What are you waiting for...trust me, I've worked endlessly with all media types, codecs, getting pcs to recognize and play mkvs etc... This thing took anything we threw at it. 1080p mkv files will need a fast connection to play... Could probably throw the file on a USB to improve if network is an issue.

- Strengths:
- Nice Remote
- Weaknesses:
- Choppy playback. Freezes. Refuses to list all files. Zero customer support from Dlink.
- Summary:
- I bought the Box to overcome my problem of some players not playing my files. My 360 and PS3 were just too picky. Well the Box played them all but it wasn't worth the trouble. Many videos that play fine elsewhere run "choppy" on the Box. I renamed over 1000 movies with proper nfo files as well and the Boxee refuses to list them all no matter how many times I reboot or do as system restore. Worst of all there is no support from Dlink. For $200 you basically get to become a tester and scour forums trying to fix your problems. I paid $200 so I would save time, but I've spent more time trying to get this product to work as advertised. Avoid.

Fantastic device! Who needs cable?

- Strengths:
- Netflix & Crunchyroll access
Streams anything you throw at it
Sets up in seconds out of the box
- Weaknesses:
- Has the occasional networking bug, fixable with a reboot
Netflix GUI is a little annoying
- Summary:
- It streams anything I throw at it, instantly recognized and cataloged all of my movies on my home server without requiring any renaming on my part. It even connected to the internet and downloaded DVD covers and descriptions for all my shared movies and recorded TV shows. With the apps for Netflix and Crunchyroll (Netflix for Anime fans) I'll never pay for cable again.
Bottom Line: If you want a media streaming box, don't buy anything but this.

- Strengths:
- -works right out of the box
-ubelievable amount of online shows and streams with more added all the time
-plays ripped blurays
-downloads metadata for all your media
- REMOTE HAS KEYBOARD ON BACK
- Weaknesses:
- -doesn't play bluray menus, but does show dvd menus
-US sites like hulu wont work without a proxy
- Summary:
- This little wonder is what I settled on after I tried the Asus O Play, the WDTV Live and an xbox 360 as a media center extender. All i wanted was to be able to play bluray rips in my room without building a whole nother PC. This thing nailed it, and in the process, I cancelled my cable. No joke, this box can access for FREE all of the shows that I watch on tv, and my NetFlix and all of my downloaded media, and its so easy to use its totaly WAF of 10/10... Bought another for downstairs

- Strengths:
- - Great User Interface
- Very Eye candy looking
- Great support for File Formats
- HD Sound output is clear and crisp through sound surround system
- Quiet
- Video playback is generally smooth
- Cool remote with keyboard
- Finds Metadata (IF THE FILE IS NAMED CORRECTLY)
- Weaknesses:
- Device still has LOTS of bugs in the firmware , you shouldn't have to sit and rename all your movie files JUST so the Boxee can "Identify them" I have 2700 movies and that's allot of work YES there are renaming software out there but still you shouldn't have to go through all the work.
Watching movies and fast forwarding and rewinding is slow
watching dvds and movies freezes after a while
Sharing folders can sometimes be a pain
- Summary:
- I tried this device for a week and put it throuhg it's tests but in the end was not satisfied, for me personally I want a device that has functions to suite my needs and not have to spend hours renaming my files and doing all this prep work in order for the device to have funionality
Guess we will see

- Strengths:
- Looks cool.
Easy to connect.
Remote is pretty decent.
Interface is good.
- Weaknesses:
- Bought if for the wireless ability and it will not work. Maybe at some point this year they will fix the firmware so I can actually connect. For now I guess the 20 feet of network cable runnng through the middle of room is pretty sexy.
- Summary:
- $200 piece of artwork with a pretty green logo. Wait for a few months for updates.
Boxee Box is great

Chris from Calgary writes:
- Strengths:
- - Great GUI
- More intuitive and "pretty" than most media streamers
- Great support for audio/video codecs
- Some HD surround sound support (DTS-MA, and Dolby True HD coming?)
- Quite stable
- Quiet
- Video playback is generally smooth (there are a couple BD-ISO and MKV bugs reported on Boxee forums that devs are actively resolving)
- Great remote
- Great iPhone/iPod app to replace remote
- Finds show/movie cover art, episode descriptions, ratings, air dates, etc.
- Weaknesses:
- - A few bugs still in firmware
- Finding locally stored files in the GUI vs Online content requires a few more clicks than I'd like
- Web browser seems slow
- Online web-based content is of generally poor visual quality (great selection of shows)
--- none of the bugs are a deal breaker
- Summary:
- I picked this up to replace a PS3/PS3 Media Server for playing MKV, M2TS, MP4, etc. All I can say is the experience has been almost flawless.
The file "scraper" picks up most TV shows and Movies, downloads ratings, descriptions, and cover art. This makes it much easier for the average person to use.
You get the option, when picking a show or film, to view from a "local file" (connected via USB HDD or network share) or from several online sources (CTV, Global, etc) which are ad supported. Most of this online content is of fairly "youtube" type quality.
This box is great for locally stored content.
