Decent for a standard mechanical keyboard

3/5
 3/16/2012 7:21:41 PM
Lorenzo from Burnaby, BC writes:
Strengths:
- Quality, solid construction - Well designed frame with no wasted space - Left windows key replaced with a more practical function key, to go along with the media F hotkeys
Weaknesses:
- Bigger keys like shift and space have an inconsistent feel, compared to most mechanical keyboards - Some keycaps can be removed way too easily - No height adjustment, may be a turn-off for those who like to make ergonomic adjustments to their typing environment - Key layout may be awkward for some typists (smaller right shift, odd backslash placement)
Summary:
There are better mech keyboards out there. This one isn't bad, but it's not the best either. If you're into the Cherry MX Black switches and just want a keyboard with a basic layout (albeit with some adjustments), this is the one to get if you want bang for your buck. Be sure to try the key switches before you make the purchase, as Cherry MX Blacks aren't for everyone. They are typically switches that favor gaming, and will more likely than not cause wrist/finger fatigue for the average typist.

A Great Keyboard!

Strengths:
Fantastic build quality. Cherry MX black switches (all keys). Keys mounted on internal metal plate. No folding legs to break or slide on desk. Already at a good angle. Heavy with good rubber feet. Will not slide around. No extra unwanted 'features'. PS/2 adaptor for NKRO. Works great!
Weaknesses:
Some people may not like the big enter key. Cherry MX black switches are tiring for regular typing. No braided USB cord. USB cord not removable.
Summary:
This is the best keyboard I've used, and is good value for your money.

Middle of the Road

Gavin from Calgary writes:
Strengths:
-Exactly what it says it is, regular run of the mill keyboard -Got rid of the left windows key, which is great
Weaknesses:
-When new came covered in weird plasticy dust/grit, not a big deal easy to clean -The white letters on the keys get dirty really quick but I think this is due to the above mentioned dust as cleanings are becoming less frequent. - a little unimpressed when first opened the box but the keyboard grows on you
Summary:
Good solid keyboard, nothing fancy. Good for gaming/programming. Recommended.

Steelseries 6G

Mike from Calgary writes:
Strengths:
Simple and durable
No fancy stuff
Very comfortable
Very responsive and generally fun to use
Reasonably priced
Weaknesses:
None - if you want fancy colors and gaming textures, get Logitech.
Summary:
When ever I use other keyboards and come home to use the 6G it's the best feeling ever... cuz all other keyboards suck :D
Unbelievably great feel and just a great keyboard for everything from engineering work (in my case) to gaming - I can easily say I'm a lot more productive working on this keyboard than any other as well (oh - and a better gamer).

Another 5 Star Review

Strengths:
The previous reviews really do outline how amazing this keyboard is. I was skeptical about much "better" mechanical keyboards were going to be, but I don't think I will ever go back to a membrane keyboards. The hype about mechanical keyboards is real!!
Weaknesses:
I do not like the steelseries key in place of the windows key on the left side as I like to use the winkey+something shortcuts.
No wrist rest.
Summary:
Amazing keyboard.
One thing to note - the layout of the keyboard is slightly different from most keyboards (at least the ones I have used). Note the positioning of the \ key. Right shift key is also smaller, so i frequently mistype question marks now. Enter key is slightly bigger
I every other keyboard I use now (such as at work) feels inferior to this one.

Best Mechanical Keyboard on the North American market!

John from Winnipeg, MB writes:
Strengths:
- High Quality construction. All metal frame. Feels and looks extremely durable.
- Amazing Mechanical Keys, uses the Cherry MX Blacks, my personal favorite. Quieter than other Cherry MX Switches.
- SteelSeries Product, everything they make is top notch.
- Low Profile, High functionality. No needless features, simple and to the point.
-Gamer Features, removed left windows key for a media function key.
-NKRO 108 Simultanious key presses with ps/2 adapter. No more ghosting.s
Weaknesses:
- The Layout: Everybody has their preference. The \ button is located between / and LSHIFT. I'm used to having below backspace and above enter, took awhile to get used to.
- Lack of choice with keyswitches: Like I mentioned, this keyboard uses the cherry MX Blacks, i prefer these over all other switches, however, most other RTS players prefer the blues over the blacks, which are not available with SteelSeries keyboards right now.
-Lack of customization/cleaning capabilities. Removi
Summary:
Best keyboard you can buy right now (next to the 7g if you prefer a wrist wrest/other features) in North America. The only thing comparable in north america is probably the Das Keyboard, which is hard to find in Canada, and is also just as pricey, however they have more options when it comes to the keyswitches.

The build quality is comparable to all the other top mechanical keyboard makers right now, including Das, Filco, and the other asian manufacturers.

Strengths:
This thing is a tank. It will last 10x longer than silly membrane keyboards. Very minimalist design simple and clean. The thing is a joy to type on and wonderful for gaming. Cherry MX black switchs. No left windows key, witch is great.
Weaknesses:
My only problem was that i couldn't get a different switch type,(Cherry MX browns) but the black are still great

High price
Summary:
Great keyboard, but high price point. Unfortunatly that seems like what one needs to pay in NA to get a good mechanical board

No Frills top tier Keyboard

Mike P from Calgary writes:
Strengths:
- Full Mechanical Keyboard
- Solid build quality
- Anti Ghosting for all keys through PS2
- Very Responsive
Weaknesses:
- No fancy gaming stuff
Summary:
This keyboard is a no-nonsense very high quality gaming keyboard. It's targeted at gamers that don't care about back-lighting, fancy macro keys or any other flashy features. It's all about responsiveness and quality components. Just a rock solid gaming keyboard and that's all I wanted.
