- fan is quiet for a 40mm and you can quieten it further with the 3 speed fan control.
- forced airflow keeps drive cooler than in passive airflow caddies.
- LCD display shows useful information (temp, activity, fan speed)
- trayless
- fan/display only power on when a drive is inserted
Weaknesses:
- fan always defaults to high when powered up (but no big deal on a 24/7 machine or if you want it always on high)
- fan control buttons emit annoying 'beep' (no big deal unless you change fan speed often)
- no dimming of display
Summary:
got these for the convenience factor because i'm finding i'm doing HDD imaging/cloning/wiping more and more often. toolless and trayness makes it swapping drives quick and easy. external USB2 dock wasn't cutting it anymore.
keep in mind if you want hot-swapping functionality you must enable AHCI in your BIOS/EFI.
I use it to archive images to several drives, a different drive for different work and I have my "C" drive backed up to a seperate drive all together. I'd recommend this to everyone.
