Strengths:
-Cheap
-Fully supports TomatoUSB and DDWRT
Weaknesses:
- Inconsistant network performance
- Strange latency issue out of the box
- Custom Firmware doesn't fix latency issues
Summary:
I initially purchased this router to be used strictly as a Wireless Access Point for my gaming laptop.
I started using it just with the Stock ASUS firmware and was experiencing strange Latency spikes at irregular intervals. Running a constant ping at the router I would get 5-18 or so Ping's at >1ms then out of nowhere it would spike to 800ms+ for a ping or 2 then back down.
I thought it was a hardware issue and exchanged for another one. Same problem right out of the box.

Not impressed

Runs dd-wrt and tomatousb firmware.
Great range.
Cheap.
Good chipset.
Upgradable antennas.
Recovery mode and software allow you to unbrick it.
Weaknesses:
Only the latest version of the stock firmware (1.0.1.1 or later) seems to be decent. Router becomes unstable if you make any changes other than defaults (Don;t use the QoS features in the stock firmware). Recommend installing dd-wrt, then install tomatousb. Everything works fine now.
Summary:
Great router if you put the effort into installing dd-wrt or tomatousb on it.

Terrible...just terrible. But there is a solution

Strengths:
- good price
- isn't an ugly box
Weaknesses:
- The firmware from Asus is horrible, no other word to describe it
- Asus firmware is incredibly slow, both in the web interface and all internet traffic
- Could not get any wireless devices to connect to it
- The Asus "wizard" is completely useless, and often mis-reports information
- Asus firmware update didn't help at all
Summary:
I had been using a PC router with a linux distro on it, however that PC was starting to fail. So a cheap alternative was this one. The router was a problem right from first installation, and I had a a heck of a time to get simple basic functionality out of it. I installed DD-WRT firmware like the other reviewer, and all the issues I had, disappeared. Long story short, using a 3rd party firmware is almost a requirement to get any use of this thing.

Solid router

Strengths:
- Wireless N
- Up to 4 SSIDs (w/ stock firmware)
- No problems with p2p
- Excellent price
- Fully supported by DD-WRT and Tomato custom firmwares
Weaknesses:
- Only 4MB flash
Summary:
I bought this router as a replacement to my dead Dlink DI-604. I was just looking for something cheap, but that could handle high volumes of traffic. Had some slight performance issues after updating the firmware to the latest Asus official (1.0.0.8), so decided to install DD-WRT instead. Worked like a charm and used it to wirelessly bridge with a WRT54G (running DD-WRT) attached to my VMWare cluster in the basement. So far I have had no issues whatsoever. Excellent router for the price
