- FAST FAST FAST!!! I love this thing. I have two of them attached to my iMac and they're being used as storage for streaming media files for the entire house. Once I journalled the drives for use with the Mac I can now put any size file I want to on there and be able to watch it anywhere in the house I please without having to cart around multiple drives from room to room
- Weaknesses:
- Yeah OK the cord is a little on the short side but I'm not a cheapskate and I bought a longer printer cable when I purchased the second one. Beyond that some kind of dust cover for the drives would be cool. I'm lazy and I don't dust off my equipment as often as I probably should.
- Summary:
- Overall a great product. Very versatile and very quick. Highly recommend for anyone looking for extra storage but not wanting to get raped buying some of the enclosures that are out there.

- Strengths:
- Works great as USB3. I am getting 80 Mb transfer speed with 1 Tb Seagate drives. Works flawlessly on my dual boot systems with Linux and Win 7. About as plug and play as it gets. Having easily swappable devices exposed is great for unlimited multiple backups, archiving and portability as well as heat dissipation that can kill a drive in those enclosed, unventilated cases in my experience.
- Weaknesses:
- Cable length is short. The unit essentially must be beside your computer or a couple of feet away.
- Summary:
- So far it's been flawless and the short cable is fine with me as I intended to treat it as a portable device. Remember that the USB3 specification is way faster than the devices currently using it including your computer. It's only as fast as your slowest device.
Does the job

- Cheap USB3.0 drive dock
- Weaknesses:
- Works fine as a USB 2.0 dock, but as soon as I connected it to a USB 3 capable mainboard (WIN7, latest drivers, etc). The problems never ended! Intermittent connections, random "reboots" on the drive, computer couldn't find drive, etc.
- Summary:
- This is clearly a product they rushed out to door without proper testing, and can probably be fixed with a simple firmware upgrade. Hope you guys have better luck.
Convenient

- Strengths:
- - Faster than USB 2.0 - Copying various sizes of files shows that it's at least 3x the speed of USB 2.0, but still not the speed of an internal SATA drive to another internal drive - it can read at speeds up to 100 MB/s and writes about 60-80 (while USB 2.0 has about 35 MB/s read and 25-35 MB/s write). This is on 1.5 TB drives copying to a 1 TB.
- Paired with a USB 3.0 adapter ($35-40), it's a great alternative to pulling the cover off a computer and rebooting everytime you need to read a drive
- Weaknesses:
- - Cables are still too short! You need a very close plug-in and it has to pretty much sit right on top of the computer...I'd be happy to spend the extra $2 for the longer cables! ;)
- Summary:
- - Had some trouble with refreshing after swapping drives - you have to make sure to turn off the base before ejecting the drive - now all is well.

Convenience
- Weaknesses:
- Very, very short cables! What's up with that?
- Summary:
- I like the idea of the "future-proofing" with the USB 3.0 interface and the speed should be comparable to ESATA but with the advantages of USB 2 and 3 - at a lower price.
The biggest complaint I have is that the specialized USB 3.0 cable (so I can't use one of my own) is barely 3 feet long...! What the heck - I can't even reach my computer with it. To make matters even worse, the power cable is about 4 feet long. It makes this much, much less portable and convenient!
