May have bad sectors (see below - Drive date 22 JUN 2011) - Summary:
- I HIGHLY recommend using the WD DLGDIAG utility to perform a low level write (zeros) to the entire HD. My first drive passed the verification tests, but it corrupted a large number of my files. I used the WD utility and when writing zeros there were a large number of bad sectors. Memory Express quickly replaced the drive, but my second drive also had a few bad sectors (passed the initial diagnostics but writing zeros found the bad sectors as well, at least this time there were only a handful).
Overall a great drive, but using as a backup drive it's best to use the WD utility to be sure there are no bad sectors. I also use PAR2 to verify files, quick and easy and will let you know your backup is fully intact.

- For backups, who cares how slow it is. I use a couple of these in a BlacX dock and rotate out full backups offsite. Both drives have been working flawlessly.
Fantastic storage drive

- As a "green" drive it delivers on the promise of low noise and temperature in exchange for a bit of performance. I'm using it as a backup drive in an external enclosure which it's characteristics are perfect for. It's been a solid little performer with no issues.
The price is pretty hard to beat as well for a 2TB drive.
As far as reliability is concerned, time will tell but the lower speed and temperatures definitely shouldn't hurt in that department.
So far so good.

- Look, I get it you want to save some hard earned Moola on equipment and energy cost, but seriously, if going green means poor quality, slow performance then this drive is for you. Go ahead and save the planet, me, I am gonna save my data on something more reliable.

- Drive failed after 1hr of use. drive was made in jan 10 2011. Could be due to bad luck but will likely go with the seagate model instead as a replacement model maybe from the same batch.

- Bought 4 of these drives for two raid1 sets, working flawlessly for the past 3 months, and have had one of them for about 2 years, no issues at all. The drives came with about 3 years of manufacture warranty, and they can be used with the acronis drive cloner for free, helps back up.

Reliable name (W.D.) - Weaknesses:
- Head parking after only 8 seconds of idle, you can hear a small click (which scares the pants off you). The "green" WD have this power save option, the issue is if your using Speedfan or any smart HD program to read the temperature, that program will wake your HD every 1 min to read the temperature and then your drive will park it's head after 8 seconds. DISABLE speedfan because it is an annoying click sound, and it will cause extra wear on your hard drive (and very high load/unload cycle count)
- Summary:
- I have a two other WD drives, i wouldnt trust any other name (especially seagate, wow! some bad experienceS there)
Would be 5 stars aside from the head parking (its not a problem if your drive doesnt idle a lot or if your using it in a server or if you cant hear the click, it artificial decreases it life)
