Good Hardware - Bad Firmware

4/5

Strengths:
- Very Powerfull Router - Fast CPU - DD-WRT Compatiable - Looks good (Glossy Black)
Weaknesses:
- Factory firmware is HORRIBLE!!!!! - Constant crashing and timeout's - Stopped transmitting on wireless - USB did not work with factory firmware - Bad support for firmware for Version 1
Summary:
After buying this awhile back the router worked fine for a few months but after i updated the firmware it just all went down hill. It was very disappointing that i spent $140 and the firmware was that unstable . Stopped using it for a year and then i finally decided to put DD-WRT onto it. Lets just say the combination of DD-WRT and this router = POWERHOUSE! You get all the features that the router promised PLUS some because DD-WRT. Dont buy this unless you are going to install DD-WRT!

Good router

Strengths:
Just like everyone else has already said
Weaknesses:
Possible weak wireless components - see summary
Summary:
I had my router for 10 months and the radio tranmitter for the wireless died, as it was still covered under warranty by Netgear I sent it in for RMA and this took less than week return and all is well.

Works with DD-WRT!

Strengths:
Great 5ghz throughput whether using stock firmware or DD-WRT. This router provides consistent 11MB throughput on wireless file transfers in my environment.
Weaknesses:
None. Some have complained about 5ghz range but that is the nature of all 5ghz routers - you will not get the same range as 2.4ghz.
Summary:
I bought this router to replace a Dir-825 as my version was not compatible with DD-WRT firmware. I ran the stock firmware for a month and was completely satisfied with the performance in using both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. After installing DD-WRT I did not see any performance loss. With DD-WRT you can even configure the usb port to work with a 3G stick - I have this as a fallback if my dsl fails.
This router is excellent - you pay a little bit more but you get a robust processor for your money.

It ok, better out there for the price

Fast CPU
Easy Setup even for you.
Weaknesses:
Poor user interface with limited options.
Shiny black fingerprint and dust magnet
Wobbly cheap stand
not compatible with 3rd party firmwares or apps.
Summary:
It's ok and that is all.

Strengths:
- Great range
- Easy to use software
- Many options in the factory software
- Special setting to support video
- Guest network option
Weaknesses:
- None yet
Summary:
Huge upgrade over a WRT54G. Windows Media Center actually played video files on 2nd story with the router in the basement without one skip.

Fantastic Range and Easy Setup

Strengths:
Just purchased the WNDR3700 and found the setup including security to be extremely easy and the signal range to be fantastic. We connected three computers and the wireless printer in about 15 minutes. Signal range is great. We have a three story house and we receive 5 out of 5 even in the basement bedroom from the top floor. Warning: if you are on shaw mail you need to change your incoming and outgoing mail server name from shawmail to shawmail.cg.shawcable.net for your email to work.
Weaknesses:
None as of yet.
Summary:
I would recommend this wireless router especially if you are not that versed at computer/router conections.

Think twice before you buy

Good looking.Only 2.4G work at acceptable level.
Weaknesses:
5G is not as good as said in their ads . Having trouble with wired net work too .All of my desktops have gigabit network adapters but transfer files between computer only sitting at 9-11Mb/s. Got connection interrupted while playing with PS3 too many times.I could not set static IP.I did come back to M.E. to exchange for another one and the problem still exist They don't even have a proper firmware , the newest firmware v 1.0.6.98 has created so many problems .
Summary:
Unless you have $150 to waste. Check out the forum http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105

Strengths:
- Easy to set up
- Good range
Weaknesses:
- Didn't find any
Summary:
This is the best wireless router I have set up. It was amazingly simple. I have a desktop on the wired port, an airport express on the 5GHz radio (stream music to a stereo downstairs), an itouch, blackberry, and macbook on the 2.5GHz radio, plus I connect a PC laptop via the guest network. I was sceptical about the "push n connect" feature but i used it to connect the blackberry in under 30 seconds.

Not Bad

Strengths:
Strong signal, easy set up. All my wireless devices connected easily.
Weaknesses:
Can't use the guest network. As soon as you enable the guest network it disables your 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz networks as well as disables the wireless radio. Very annoying since the guest networking was one o the reasons I bought the router.
Netgear is aware of the issue but won't release a new firmware fix until sometime later this year
Summary:
Overall this router is very good as long as you don't plan on using the guest network.

.... Ugh.

Looks nice
Weaknesses:
Headache inducing problems?
Summary:
I've had the router for about a week now, and so far a few different settings have reset themselves including wireless - or my favorite, the router broadcasting ssid "network-0b83wet(etc)" and unsecured when my settings in the router itself say the proper ssid and wpa2 with my passkey.... All these things reset or change, but my password stayed the same...
