Excellent value

Strengths:
Used it for 5 months in a remote exploration camp on satellite internet systems up to 6 hours talking per day on numbers all through North America. Also tried it in Dawson City YT, Mexico, Guyana and Peru and it worked perfectly. Sent some down to South America with 604 area codes and they work great with excellent call quality. Very reliable on incoming calls. Missed calls and voice mails are forwarded to email and came in very fast. Tried it on XP, Vista and Win 7 and all worked well.
Weaknesses:
Does not call 867 area code (Yukon). Computer on all the time is a pain, but we had some that never shut off so not so bad. Does not work on Ka band internet satellite systems but does on Ku band (Hughesnet, iDirect). Minor issues with software no restarting when Windows does updates etc.
Summary:
Recommend the Plus version that plugs in directly to the Router so computer no longer required. Overall a strong recommendation for the product.

Strengths:
MJ does what the advertisment says. Very inexpensive for what you actually get. Works well with a cheap $12 phone I bought from Walmart. Crystal clear sound and very easy to use.
Weaknesses:
Subscribed to the 5 years plan, but, had to pay an additional 4.8% for some mandatory Government Regulatory fees. Also, dislike paying an extra $10.00/yr for Canadian phone number.
Summary:
Great little product. Own 2 and thinking of buying another. Bye bye Telco.

Good but there are better options out there.

James from Henry writes:
Strengths:
-Easy to setup
-Easy to use
-Can call from anywhere in the world to north america for free (but not the other way)
-Incoming call is quality good, but all local calls in Calgary are very choppy for me and it's not my computer (2.4Ghz P4) or internet connection (6mbps down/1mbps up).
Weaknesses:
-Need to leave your computer running 24/7 which can easily cost more than $100/year in electricity cost alone!
-Need to pay extra $10/year for Canadian number (US numbers are only $20/year, $30/year for Canadian, national discrimination?)
-No phone support, only online chat support.
-Hardware is locked to magic jack service, can't use with other VoIP providers.
-No advanced settings (no codec choice, no server choice)
-Annoying software, always pops up when you pick up the phone.
Summary:
Good for non-technical people but if you have any technical skill at all you can buy an ATA and don't need to keep your computer on all the time to save lots of electricity (and money). If you get an unlocked ATA then you are free to choose other providers (voip.ms, callcentric, localphone, etc) and get better rates too and switch providers whenever you want. Too bad ME doesn't carry the Linksys PAP2T-NA :(

majicJack = Great Product

Strengths:
Crystal clear voice quality, Price, Price, Price!
My Telus bill is $50.00 per month, majicJack $30.00 per YEAR!
Has most of the features for free that the telcos charge extra for.
Free long distance in North America. Your local number goes with you if you take majicJack with you when you travel. My step son (who lives in Revelstoke) has a neighbor whose son is attending school in France. The son has a majicJack with a Revelstoke number so calls to/from France are free.
Weaknesses:
Call display does not send or receive names (only phone numbers) and your name is not in the phone book. However some people would consider that a bonus since they pay their telco extra for these *features*.
An Internet connection is required; but who deals with Memory Express and doesn't have Internet?
majicJack only supports 1 device, but you can use a multi-handset cordless phone.
Linux is not supported so you need windoze or mac.
Summary:
I needed to pick up a used computer that is dedicated, but doesn't need to be (I dislike windoze), and a 4 handset cordless phone as well as the majicJack, Cost $250.00. Cancel the landline -$600.00 per year. Savings first year $350.00 after that $570.00 per year. No brainer!

Misleading advertising

Strengths:
cheap
Weaknesses:
misleading advertising
Summary:
Bought this thing for a friend to use so she could call her friends in Turkmenistan. Advertising indicates free long distance. We found out the hard way, AFTER you install and activate the device, that to call some countries, additional PREPAID charges apply. On Skype, she could call her friends for 11c/m, through this thing, she would have to pay 18c/m.

Beware that all sales are final.

Memory express will not take back, you have to spend money to ship it back to get credit back.

do i want this service?

Strengths:
i bought it @ bb and can return..
Weaknesses:
i just bought this unit and cannot find an 780 area code that is available.
this phone is useless to me if my number is long distance, from all the forums about MJ i am wondering if any more 780 number will ever be released...also very troubling privacy issues in their terms and conditions as well as having the ability to see contact info and call list for advertising purposes
Summary:
it seems that customer service sounds as intelligent as i can expect for the price that i paid for this service, they are script readers and usually don't deviate.

Good so far

Easy & flawless Setup
Good quality
Cheap
Weaknesses:
only 800 numbersfor the 780 area code, so you're phone # will be 780-800-xxxx.
Summary:
So far it's working excellent. Had a few quirks but downloaded the Win7 updgrade and it's working excellent.
You have to realize what you're getting and not getting before you buy.
There's currently no 911 service for Canada, and I'm not sure there ever will be.
You have to leave it plugged into a PC that is turned on 24/7 365 days a year.
I'm currently running it on a laptop with all power saving features turned off. It does not slow the PC down at all. So far 8.5/10

The best value phone service yet!

>You do need a pc/mac with a Internet connection
>911 not available for Canada
Summary:
>Im very satisfied with this device as now 5 months afer a few small adjustments i havent had any isues whatsoever and have cancelled my landline.
>There are patches for a pc or mac.
>You have a choice of 403 or 780 for $10 extra but if you regester with a free amarican # you no longer can get a canadian #.

So far I'm very satisfied with the product. Ease of use, great voice quality. Just hope that their success story will not overload their server and thus make quality drops.
Weaknesses:
Please be aware that wherever you buy it from, provided US phone number is included in the price but if you want a Canadian phone number you have to pay 10 US extra. If you first choose a US phone number then later on want a Canadian one you will have to pay 20 US (10 US for number change and 10 US for a Canadian number).
Summary:

Works as advertised

Strengths:
Quality of call has been very good. No issue with connectivity or dropping calls. Nice to have the unlimited long distance with this product. Can easily transfer from computer to computer (work and home).
Weaknesses:
They did have Calgary 403 numbers available but they start with (403) 800 which almost anyone I have called has thought it was an 800 number calling and wasn't sure if they should answer in case it was a telemarketer.
Summary:
Overall very good product.
