Great card, wonky install

- Strengths:
- Runs hard drives as fast as they will go.
- Weaknesses:
- Installation not as manual documents. I recommend going to manufacturers website and installing the driver they provide.
- Summary:
- This card is fast. With a 7200 RPM WD 3.5" hard drive I get 99 MB/s on my internal SATA connector, and guess what I get on the USB 3.0 port? That's right, 99MB/s. A 5400 RMP Samsung hard drive was getting 85MB/s on my internal SATA port, now gets 85MB/s on my USB 3.0 port. I am using PCIe 2.0 X1 slot as the card recommends. I can't wait to try it with a 200MB/s + SSD.
No additional driver required with Linux

- Strengths:
- I just booted up Linux through UBUNTU 10.04.1 and found that Linux automatically recognized this USB-3 adapter with an attached USB-3 docking station with a Seagate drive. It is nice to know that no additional Linux drivers are required for this interface adapter when using a recent version of Linux.
- Weaknesses:
- No Linux weaknesses found.
- Summary:
- Recommended USB-3 interface card for Linux.
Actual Data Transfer Speed Tests USB-3 Adapter

- Strengths:
- Note, as per USB-2, there is a difference between theoretical speed and practical implementation data transfer speed. See summary below.
- Weaknesses:
- My system only has the PCIe version 1 bus. If you have the version 2 bus, your practical speeds may be about 2X faster.
- Summary:
- USB-3 Card PCIe and USB-3 hard disk docking station.
System: Windows XP, SP2, PCIe bus version 1.0; Three tests:
(1) Seagate DiscWizard Basic compression Image Backup to USB-2: 10,530,000 bytes / second
(2) Seagate DiscWizard Basic Compression Image Backup to USB-3: 25,000,000 bytes / second
(3) Simple file copy either to or from USB-3: 32,600,000 bytes / second
Conclusion: The adapter is indeed faster than USB-2, but from a practical implementation, 5X or 10X faster was not achieved.
USB 3.0 Installed on XP sp2 System

- Strengths:
- High speed (up to 2.5 Gbps) with PCIe (version 1.0) interface.
Installed on Windows XP sp2 OS
Works also with USB 2.0 devices (plug compatible)
- Weaknesses:
- Vendor supplied driver installation CD does not install the driver as per vendor documentation. I had to go to the vendor's web site to download the most current driver. Downloaded driver installed OK.
- Summary:
- Great product with the potential to provide up to 5 Gbps data transfer (PCIe version 2.0 interface)
Backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, albeit at the slower 2.0 USB speed.
