Make sure to use firmware 202NA!

- Strengths:
- Stable and reliable when using firmware 202NA (which was the firmware installed out of the box).
- Weaknesses:
- Stay away from the latest versions of the firmware (they're currently up to 206NA). I've tried all the newer versions, but found they're unstable & unreliable when compared with 202NA.
- Summary:
- If you have upgraded your firmware (or it came out of the box with firmware other than 202NA), you can download 202NA from here:
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir825_revB/Firmware/
Note: No special method is required to roll-back the firmware; simply install it as if you're upgrading the firmware. You just may have to reset your router's settings.
D-LINK DIR-825 - forget QoS.

- Strengths:
- Seems to be a decent router as long as you don't need QoS.
- Weaknesses:
- Overpriced, unless the dual band feature is worth $45.00 to you, otherwise I would suggest the DIR-655 is a better value.
QoS caused continuous wireless dropouts 1 floor up (but still within 25 feet) and completely killed wireless 2 floors up. The DIR-655 has the same problem. Forget D-LINK QoS unless you enjoy beating your head against the wall. Same results with both Ubuntu Linux and windoze.
- Summary:
- Poor value unless the dual band feature is important to you.
Terribly unreliable

- Strengths:
- My review seems to be at odds with the others here, but my experience with this router has been a bad one.
I guess some strengths are some of the advanced configuration options that are available; however even here for all the advanced features some of the basic features are absent or buggy. I put it into an existing stable network based on an old, old WRT54 that had been rock-solid for 5 years. I'm going back to my old Linksys router and retiring this to be expensive wired gigabit switch.
- Weaknesses:
- - plain and simply, its utterly unreliable - wireless disappears, even when present or using LAN, routing to internet disappears. A reset required nearly every day; sometimes every few hours.
- On GUI you cant configure routes on internal LAN - the feature exists but you have to hack the html using Firefox-firebug add-on to access it.
- Cant route the WAN side of the router from the LAN, i.e. if you are using dyndns.org to present your NW to internet, address won't work on your intranet
- Summary:
- Maybe I just got a dud with some manufacturing fault - but even this is a huge black mark as far as I'm concerned. Up-to-date with FW. I'm technically competent so haven't messed anything up. Was unreliable even in my original basic shaw-DIR825-WiredPC arrangement
Easy to setup

- + ease of setup
+ easy to connect
+ very good range
+ shareport is nice
+ better throughput than my NetGear router
- Weaknesses:
- - pricey
- Summary:
- lots of pluses though it is pricey (but worth it).

very fast
- Weaknesses:
- firmware needs immediate update as mentioned
- Summary:
- I got this to help integrate wireless into my HD video experience. It was one of the few cards at the time that had this feature- and remains a relatively unique breed. Cost has fluctuated about 15 dollars in the last year or so. A great product for any application in the house- though the dual band may or may not be worth it to an average "facebook / banking" user.
Excellent, STABLE router

- Strengths:
- -STABLE
-Advanced features like DHCP reservations by MAC
-Supports default win7, vista autotune network settings without crashing (I'm looking at you, linksys)
-filtering by IP or web url
-generous number of port forwarding rules allowed compared to linksys
- Weaknesses:
- -no built in VPN
-some are saying the wireless range is less than other routers, not an issue for my setup
- Summary:
- In the last 4 years I've had 4 different routers, all of them unstable from Watchguard, DLink, and 2 Linksys routers. Some of them quite expensive. I've finally found something that will stay up and running without having to disable a bunch of features on the router or the PC's. Really, how hard can it be to make something that doesn't crash???

- Rock solid stability, with wirless devices. I have not had to reboot this in the 5 months I have had it. Easy to configure and setup. Just be sure to do the firmware update.

- Just purchased h/w B1 revision and upgraded the firmware to 2.02NA right away. Easy manual setup and my wireless network has never seemed so solid and fast. I have my transmit power fo set to medium and have no connection problems anywhere in my house. I stream a lot of media content to my TV via a DAP-1522 and an Xbox and, so far, no lag or connection issues. Caching of the media stream is instantaneous now. Shareport is sharing my USB printer without a hitch. Overall, I'm very impressed!
- Weaknesses:
- None, so far.
- Summary:
- Just make sure you upgrade your firmware, right away. There are a lot of fixes in it.
