Strengths:
Boot up time starting a P4-3Ghz with the Velociraptor is faster start up than with a AMD-Phenom 9850 with two Hitachi 2GB RAID 0 on LSI 9650 controller. (same OS). Latencies obviously make the difference when loading an OS.
Weaknesses:
Sustained transfer rates are not even close to the 2TB drives, so large file transfers are better suited to 2 to 3tb+ 7200rpm drives.
Summary:
If you use cheap onboard raid with two of these in RAID 0 config, they will outperform any other single magnetic hard drive on the market for minimal cost. This drive is 4 years old and still working 100% fast and reliable. (SMART reports no issues) If capacity and reliability is not a concern, there are always faster SSD's. These are definitely more reliable.

Strengths:
High transfer rate in Raid0
Overall high performance
Weaknesses:
Cost and heat generated.
User should know how to configure raid, and administer it properly.
Summary:
Been running a pair of these in Raid0 for almost a year. High transfer rates - quick boots. HDTune gives me a peak rating of 240MB/s, average over whole drive is still respectable 180MB/s.
However, always have image backups of your Raid0 disk to another drive - failure is always a risk.

Not for the faint of heart....

- Available to uneducated buyers.
Summary:
Plain and simple. If you are looking for a single drive, don't waste your time on this unit. These drives are built for RAID.

I currently run 3 of these in a RAID 5 as my Boot Volume and I couldn't be happier.

I have run Raptors in RAID as primary Boot Volume in every system for the last 5 years and have sampled nearly every model of Raptor from the original 36GB till now, with the exception of the latest 300GB VR.....as I am running the 150GB VR's model x 3. These drives rock.

10k ??

After going from 7200 rpm, to 10k, you can feel the difference immediately!
Booting windows vista 64 bit on this hard drive and i have nothing but praise!
Weaknesses:
$/Gb
Summary:
As a system builder i highly recommend this as a boot disk, makes everything perform that much faster!!

Good stuff.

Too bad it's not an X25.
Summary:
Great drives, definately not possible to match the speed/responsiveness with 7200rpm drives in raid configs like people think (I have 4 1tb drives in raid 10)

Great for running virrtual machines, I was able to startup 2 windows 7, 1 03 server and 1 08 server at the same time and they all booted in under a minute due to the nice read speed/times I get in raid1. Until SSD's mature more I'll never leave raptor territory (or until sas drives get more desktop controllers-2 drives on 1366 sucks)
