- My HP Pavillion a830n desktop will hang on boot if the Blacx is plugged in. This black screen/blinking cursor hang seems peculiar to the HP PCs, and occurs whenever there is some kind of communication/hardware fault on startup. (I have no idea why the PC doesn't beep a POST code when it does this.) I haven't checked the BIOS, but I'm confident my PC is set up correctly and is not attempting to boot from USB. Unplugging the caddy fixes it; it operates fine when plugged back in. Could be PC, c

- ould be caddy - it's not my hub.
You absolutely do have to follow the drive initialization instructions. I was using drives pulled from a RAID array, and got strange, intermittent and unreliable operation. Having Windows initialize and format the drive fixed everything up. So before you give up, RTFM!

- Strengths:
- Works fine, uses default Windows USB drivers. Good appearance, quality seems good. Heavy enough to not skate around the desktop.
- Weaknesses:
- Doesn't seem to work with Seagate SeaTools. Then again, this could be SeaTools fault, not the HDD caddy. There is an open slot in the top; this is for holding a 2.5" drive in place. It would be nice, however, if there was a full cover of some kind to keep dust from entering the enclosure.
- Summary:
- This seems a good product. The included USB cable is a bit short, you may want a longer one. I haven't tested it extensively yet but it appears to work as advertised. I can't compare against the other caddys available, but this one appears to be good.

- Strengths:
- 1. Very easy setup. Even on older systems (98SE), Uses same drivers as any USB memory stick.
2. Heavy Duty construction, has been bullet proof for me so far, including a few knocks off the workbench.
3. Non glossy finish doesn't scratch easily, looks great even after encounters with the floor.
- Weaknesses:
- 1. Larger drive door, should have been made to cover whole opening, allows dust in, but seems to be design flaw of all current top loading caddy designs. Its easy to clean out, or just keep covered.
- Summary:
- Little on the pricey side, but if you are looking for a full duty HDD Caddy, this is a good choice. If your doing the occasional backup, there are cheaper solutions. But this one will outlast them. Mine has been trouble free and has operated in some fairly dusty environments and under extreme use conditions.
