- Cheaper than SATA drives (at the time of purchase)
- Good for old systems that don't have SATA support
Weaknesses:
- Old tech which will disappear in a few years.
Summary:
There's always a good and bad batch of products. For this model, I haven't encountered any problems. I'm using these drives in a RAID 1 setup connected to a 3Ware controller since 2006 on my file server that runs 24/7.
They managed to construct it out of raw materials...
Weaknesses:
-Isn't recognized by two different motherboards.
-Did manage to get into XP install once, but then I got fatal drive errors.
-My friend bought two of these drives a day before me, both failed on him... So you be the judge..
Summary:
I bought a Seagate 160GB IDE hard drive instead, I've never had a problem with Seagate, despite what people tell me. This Seagate drive was recognized instantly, and installing XP as we speak no problems whatsoever (The WD drive didn't even get half this far..)
