Weak on living up to advertised expectations.

- Strengths:
- Remote. Ability to record long segments of video and cut it into desired pieces. Adjustable recording quality/file size. Price. Works with Vista 64 Business (New i7 w12Gb Ram).
-weakness that wouldn't fit in box below - Can't find a scheduler for timed recording.
- Weaknesses:
- Can't use it effectively to control other media on my Comp. Picture quality varies when using a VCR to import (but no quality problems when same VCR is hooked up to a TV). Some movies look ok and others jump and colour goes off/on (Again no problems with these movies when VCR is hooked up to TV -movies are legit).
Recording quality/size adjustments do not provide a reference for how large a file gets while recording at that setting. IE: mb/s or 1Gb/hr. Would be nice to know without trying each.
- Summary:
- Using this to convert VHS to DVD but not getting the quality the advertising states I can EXPECT (let alone what I might actually recieve, which should be more than expected, as an expectation is considered to a minimal performance level, that's why you can EXPECT it, because it won't perform below that level). No experience using a cable source though. Not impressed with the supplied info describing things you actually need to know, like how to use the editing software or recording options.

- Strengths:
- - Once you've installed and set up the software, viewing TV is good.
- The IR Blaster allows you to use your set-top box to change channels with the remote included.
- Definition on straight plug-in is average, like watching basic cable.
- Channel change with the Numpad is quick and easy.
- Weaknesses:
- - Definition is average. If you're recording for yourself or to burn to DVD, get the HD PVR and use a digital set top box. Recording directly to .264 in 1080 is well worth the extra bucks.
- There is a latency between normal TV's and the Tuner so if you've got a TV on in the same room on the same channel it can get disorienting.
- The Adhesive for the remote sensors is poor, prepare to use tape.
- TV shows are recorded to unencoded MPEG, which can rapidly get large in size
- Summary:
- Good card for the money, especially if you want to just have something on in the background, or watch a show here and there. If you want true clear picture, you're better off using a Digital Cable/Satellite box and getting the HD PVR. Far superior to the Asus card and most of the Hauppauge predecessors.
Tip for Vista 64 bit

- Strengths:
- Works well in Media Centre with a good picture image.
- Weaknesses:
- Poor software support from Hauppauge. I couldn't use my old tuners when I upgraded to Vista 64 bit with 4 GB of memory because there were no 64 bit drivers. A search on the net told me I was going to run into problems and Hauppauge themselves make the point about their 64 bit driver being limited to 3 GB of memory. Hauppauge WINTV is useless.
- Summary:
- However, I went ahead with the 1600 and kept my 4 GB of memory in. The tuner worked with Media Centre barely, because the video would continually skip on all channels. I pulled out one 2GB stick of memory and found the tuner then worked perfectly. I reinstalled the memory and the tuner continued to work perfectly in Media Centre. A miracle.
impressed over all nice upgrade.

- I have just got this car after reading about all of them and I have found that it does a great job with Vista Ultimate. The last one I was using was with XP media centre and it was a ATI 9600 AIW. I find this does a way better job at recording the program much clearer and very easy to install took me a total of 10 min from start to finish.
- Weaknesses:
- None as of yet.
- Summary:
- if you do get this I would recommend a min 500GB HDD for saving on as I have found a 2hr show at max recording is up to 10GB each. and this HDD will give you 161HRs of recording.

- The product does great job recording. I use it under Windows Vista with Media Center. No problems to date. Easy to set up, and easy to record off the media guide.
- Weaknesses:
- slow to change channels, still do not know how it works, not plugged into the cable box, but somehow it changes the channels.
- Summary:
- good TV tuner and is high def.
What a stinker!

- Strengths:
- Didn't have it long enough to find any. Comes with a remote, I guess.
- Weaknesses:
- Poorly written install software.
Web support that is sub-standard.
Changes channels very slowly.
"Automatic tuning" is awful, exacerbated by:
Arduous fine-tuning process (dozens of clicks and a few minutes per channel).
- Summary:
- Seriously. Avoid this product. I put in a real effort getting it working. Once it did work, it just wasn't up to par. The software is beyond terrible. If you have another software solution in mind, this might be ok, but the automatic tuning makes me doubt that.
I think it is suffering badly from a hardware company that thinks it can write software.
The internet has some good reviews, and there are some Linux-based PVP users that seem pleased with it. I didn't see the charm.
